G'day All.

I've just finished 'Betrayal' and, although I'll undoubtedly be preaching to the converted, I just had to drop in and say how much it impressed me. :clap

While I've been reading SF/Fantasy for over 35 years, there was a time not too long ago when I pretty much gave it away. Everything I tried left me with the feeling that I'd read it before...often, many times before. Then a friend suggested getting Martin's 'Song of Ice and Fire', or just about anything by Sara Douglass.

Hallelujah, Praise the Lord and Thank You Baby Jesus!

While my back was turned, fantasy done went and got GOOD again. Here was genuine epic fantasy...in which stuff actually happened long before the end of the fifth book. Here were authors with the balls (figuratively speaking of course in Sara's case) to treat their characters in a manner that could only be described as less than kindly.

'Betrayal' puts Fiona McIntosh firmly in that class. In fact, what with bridlings and crucifixions etc., she may very well have outdone Martin in ruthlessness. (Saxon's treatment of Goth gives a whole new meaning to the expression, "Off with his head!";)

Damned Good Read, and I'll be getting hold of book 2 'toot
sweet'...budgetary considerations permitting of course.

It's a pleasure to have your company!

A word of warning..... Revenge is a roller-coaster ride.... ensure you put aside either a full couple of days, some sleepless nights or at least develop a snarling growl that prevents people from intruding too often <img src=">

Once read, we will all put the stop watch on for how long it takes you to obtain Destiny :dance

.... just love these bananas ......

Well DragonN - a stunningly warm welcome from all the gang here who will enjoy your presence so feel free to drop by anytime.

I'm overwhelmed by your generous words - to be put in the same sentence as GRRM gives me almost the same goosebumps as seeing Robin Hobb's and Sara's names on my books. Thank you so much. I love his work and curiously someone mentioned only a day or so ago that I treat my characters with a similar ruthlessness to him. What a compliment.

Well now we're all keen to hear how you fare with Revenge and of course Destiny is out there waiting for you (grin).

Come by again DN - you've made my day and thrilled to hear that you believe in fantasy again! F

Thank you Fiona, and crew, for the welcome and the invite to set aspell.

I'm now about halfway through 'Revenge', with 'Destiny' ready to rock.(I grabbed them both...budgetary restrains be damned. I've spent enough good money on bad books in my time. It's nice to actually know I'm buying something I'll enjoy.) I'll reserve judgement until I've finished all three...but, so far, I just have to throw in a couple of these :clap :clap :clap (And if that little dude isn't standing up to applaud...he should be.)

Anyway, thanks again and where do I put this bottle of Tequila...I don't believe in turning up anywhere empty handed.

And, hello Lisa/Acario...I guess Walt was right, "It's a small world after all."

Princess...but bean bags and Tequila do not mix.

You get into the bean bag, you drink the Tequila, and that's where they bury you.
I can walk and do something that passes as talking on Tequila...(or is that the other way around?) but no way can I get out of a bean bag.

I have some huge cane-stuff outdoor furniture that's just perfect for falling in and out of...and, (experience tells me) that's in which the doneness needs to occur.
..bean bags are a No-Go.

Cane furniture sounds a lot safer <img src="> and given the really nice weather we have had of late, we can all sit outside and watch the world go by......

I shall bring the lemons and salt okay?

I finished 'Revenge' at work today...what an ending!

I mean I knew there'd be a big reunion scene between Alyssa and Tor and the kids, but, despite the excellence of the writing so far, I really wasn't prepared for the power of those last chapters. I have to admit that even I was tempted, though only tempted mind you, to shed a tear or two.

And a third child...didn't see that coming.

Brilliant stuff. :clap :clap :clap :moon (Don't mind that grumpy little dude on the end...that's just some bloke called Robert Jordan wishing his books were half as entertaining as Fiona's.)
