Hey Steve,
Hmm, how to read my work?? Well, right at the moment I am still extremely jealous of it, but there is a bit up at the writers forum at voyager online... it was posted a while back and has been pushed off the front page, but it's still there if you go looking through all of the posts. Titled Circle. It's a tidbit that I wrote ages ago, from a dream and the story is still growing in me noggin. And I don't know about me giving advice. Fiona is fabulous at it though. She's the one who really got me going in the right direction. I hail from sunny Queensland, central coast area... ah.. the tropics... love 'em (except this particular town... wouldn't mind escaping it really). .............................. #5 - 17th Apr 2002 18:51:00Forum ModeratorTotal Posts: 903 Last Online: 1st Jun 2004 21:40:00 Registered: 14th May 2004 00:00:00
Well, I'm telling you all this because it's the "done" thing at an author's website but as only Obelixx is in my hometown, it really only applies to him but Big O, don't feel obliged. I may even feel less nervous not knowing a soul out there!
First Wednesday in November, Mostly Books of Mitcham is holding a dinner at Lenzerheide to meet Fiona McIntosh and learn more about her (gulp!). See Lisa what you have to prepare yourself for! At least I'm warning you - nobody warned me! Anyway, lovely gang at Mostly Books and I'm going to stare down my fear of public speaking and do it for them - a truly hardworking and committed independent bookstore. I have a friend who has a fear of eating in front of other people. Hope you don't feel that way as well as having the fear of public speaking.
I just had a brilliant idea. IF (big if) I get published, we can pretend that my name is just a second pen name for you (like Robin Hobb and Megan Lindholm) and you can do all my public appearances. Yeah, that sounds great. Hope your dinner goes well. And Obelixx has to go!! You have to support the team! "You risk tears if you let yourself be tamed." Ha ha CL - no way! Lenzerheide is old establishment restaurant in Adelaide suburb of Hawthorn. The sort of place you take your mum and dad for an anniversary bash but where you can also count on superb, big calorie food.
None of her regulars are fantasy readers so it's going to be interesting - possibly a cosy meal between me and the Big O and then I'll get up and talk loudly at him from the podium. By the way we all love Robinson's Bookshop in Melbourne because Emily the fantasy specialist has given Betrayal and Revenge a seriously good review in her monthly newsletter. All our gang in Melbourne - feel free to buy your books from Emily! p.s. no...no...no Lisa. You are going to feel fear like I have. Being a writer is easy, pushing out a trilogy is simple....standing in front of a pile of strangers and trying to get them to buy your books because of what pearls of wisdom fall out of your mouth is the test. You see, you can no longer be just a writer - you have to be a performer. (Evil laugh) You must suffer alongside me!!!!! #8 - 18th Apr 2002 23:12:00MemberTotal Posts: 682 Last Online: 5th Apr 2004 22:40:00 Registered: 14th May 2004 00:00:00 #9 - 19th Apr 2002 19:05:00MemberTotal Posts: 104 Last Online: 10th Sep 2002 18:41:00 Registered: 15th May 2004 00:00:00
well no.. you dont have to do as fiona does... there were some really good recluse writers... but if you go that road... youll have to be a 100% recluse... no going out of the house... build a tall fence around the house.possibly a mote..... pay some kid to bring you stuff and keep the blinds closed all the time.. problem solved. although your book would have to be beyond brilliant.. we're talking something that will be considered a classic... something teachers would make students read in school... because i doubt publishers like crazy people....
