Yes, thank you Crusie. Destiny is confirmed as available from August 1. Things got busy at HarperCollins and they brought in an outside editor to do the final line edit. That's only done when all the structural stuff is finished and we're all very happy with the book. The line edit scrutinised grammar, punctuation and just double checking we have nailed everything down. The person who read it, who had no history with the story and had not read previous two books, got very absorbed in Destiny and wrote to me to say I made her cry a lot! So look out you lot. She loved it as a stand alone book so that is a heartening sign that it should deliver a satisfying closing part to this story. Thanks all for your patience. This period has definitely dragged getting to the final instalment. Revenge seemed to come out much faster and yet each had a strict six month gap. I am assured I will see book cover artwork this week so I'll try and get permission to give the "inner sanctum" at the site a preview. Fingers crossed. ">

(cringe) I haven't been writing much just lately, what with selling our business - which took several months of hard work/planning and then going overseas. Prologue and setting is done but that won't be half as interesting as the opening chapter which is only in my head at the moment. However, I have 10 days straight of daylight writing with no one around. Husband at a convention, children at school, staff on hols so I can shut down phones and just write, I promise.

Lots of reasons really but two in particular. We have actually sold the major chunk of the business which is Travelnews Australia, the magazine, rather than the business itself - we still run McIntosh Communications Pty Ltd. We started the magazine 16 years ago and since then I've done all the sales and marketing. In other words, unless I earned it, there was no income for the title. So everyone sat around waiting for me to sell thousands and thousands of dollars' worth of advertising each month and then the rest of the team would fly into action to get the mag produced. It was fun and it was creative - well that's the way I approached my work - for many years but it was also draining. More to the point, by close '99 I had lost the joy of the chase and kill and began to find myself on automatic. About 18 months ago we made a decision to sell if we could find right buyer. We love Travelnews and apart from it being very good to us and taking us all over the world, it was always a terrific magazine with so much potential and the ONLY wholly Australian owned travel industry mag in the nation. Anyway, when HarperCollins snapped up Betrayal I knew my heart definitely lay elsewhere and we sold our offices, wound back the issues to 10 per year and reduced sales targets so I could write but still keep the day job and not go completely mad. Luck came our way when a Sydney publisher heard a little whisper that we might be in the market. They were perfect - an Australian owned publisher desperate to enter the travel market and another husband and wife team with a fire in their belly. Couldn't ask for more and so the deal was struck. I can't give up work completely and I still produce a magazine on behalf of a major organisation but I only write and design that - don't have to sell the ads. We'll take on some project work too. And the other major reason why selling now was ideal is that at 11 I think my sons need me around them a bit more than I have been able to be with working full time and then putting in another bulk of hours each evening. That all changes with the sale and I love the thought that as they head into such critical years I can focus on their needs. So there you have it!

Sheesh... and I think my life is hectic, just dealing with myself and a more or less regular job (okay, it is less regular than more, but compared to jetsetting around the world and going for the throat in business deals, it's kinda more or less normal). Glad you can finally find the time to do all the things you love, rather than just the things you have to do to get by. "> Bring on the Clones Asteroid B-612

Have not regretted the sale at all. Knew it was right time; knew it was good for our family and a really good idea for me to just get off the merry-go-round. Now it's all about quality of life, planning and doing what we want. For me that's writing full time.
