Welcome to the board Elle and thanks so much for your kind comments - hearing from readers is the most satisfying experience...even more delicious than chocolate!
Here's hoping uni goes well? What are you studying?
Yes, Betrayal was my first attempt at a novel. I'd never done any creative writing before but this story was just bursting out of me and so I had a go. I must admit I was speechless when HarperCollins rang to say it wanted to publish Trinity.
Book 3, Destiny, is complete and I'm tidying up the manuscript as we are now in edit mode. Editing is tedious but very necessary to ensure all loose ends are threaded back to where they belong.
And now having got this story out of my system, I'm hooked on novel writing. My next fantasy trilogy is called The Quickening and I shall commence work on that next month. A very different tale but a simple perhaps even quirky storyline which I hope readers of fantasy will find compelling.
I'm so pleased you've made contact and again, sincerely grateful for your praise and encouragement. Now tell me, who are your other favourite writers / stories?
Look forward to hearing from you and to perhaps seeing you breeze by the Board now and then, if not regularly. Bye Elle, F

Thank you for accepting me into the board! I will be visiting regularly, because its not often that a writer chats to their fans (Not that I know of anyway). You are a very considerate person.
Uni is going well, thank you for asking! I'm studying Chemistry and Linguistics in Psychology. Though I'm studying to become a Sports Psychologist. (I'm going to do that course next year - it was hard to get into!)
You must have felt on top of the world when you received that call from HarperCollins! Is that what motivated you to keep writing? How did you come up with this story?
Ahh, so 'Destiny' will be out in a few months? Thats good to hear! That is fantastic how you are continuing to write. I shall look up The Quickening later on this year. So what did you do before you discovered your talent for creative writing?
You ask about my other favourite stories? Well.. I have read many books, but the ones that have stuck out of my mind are:
'Looking For Alibrandi' - Melina Marchetta
'Tara Road' - Maeve Binchy
'The Daughters Of The House' - Nicola Thorne
'The Power Of One' - Bryce Courtenay
'Captain Corelli's Mandolin' - Louis de Bernieres
..And of course 'Betrayal' and 'Revenge'!
It is my pleasure to encourage you. I still can't believe that you only just started writing novels! I have noticed that other people share my views on you performance. Obviously all this praise has helped you to pursue your writing.
I'm very glad that all is going well for you.
Do you have any favourites? I know you like Robin Hobb and Sara Douglass!
Hear from you soon, Elle.

Actually I'm with Obelixx. Dark coated chocolate coffee beans are the way to go. Today everyone I competed in the 200 metres sprint. It was the penultimate event at the dreaded sports day and when you don't have even remotely sporty children you despise anything which highlights this fact. And so every member of this nine strong group my two boys are in had ribbons flying off their hats, except my Will. This is made worse by the fact that his twin brother had come first in the shot putt because he's big and strong. Poor Will. He'd tried the 400 m and it was ghastly to watch him struggle. He refused the 200 m but this was his last but one chance at a ribbon. He wouldn't do it. I asked the teacher whether I could compete just for a lark. I can't run to save my life especially against bouncy 11 year olds. Surprisingly he agreed because we were in Group Z or whatever they call the non-performers. Anyway, Will stopped his tears the moment he saw his mum borrow someone's sneakers and line up. He started to laugh. It was worth it just for that. The starter nearly collapsed when he let off with his gun and I hoiked my tight red skirt up around my knickers (thank the lucky stars for the angel who guided my choice towards sensible BIG knicks this morning and not the favoured G-string.). I was flying like a demon, pushing poor unsuspecting children out of my way as I thundered down the oval like Cruella de Vil. Of course I couldn't see them but other parents assure me Will and Jack were hysterically laughing and Will looked so proud as I pushed 5th and 4th out of my way down the home straight and pumped those awfully large thighs to bring me past the tape in third place to rousing cheers. I have to tell you it brought the sports day to a standstill to see a barmy mother competing who clearly could not sprint. I proudly accepted my 3rd place ribbon and promptly pinned it to Will's hat. He was thrilled - it really was as though he'd won it - too good and so worth the need to vomit and scream with the agony I felt at pushing this 42 year old bod way, way, way past its limits. I shall pay dearly tomorrow and probably not be able to even get out of bed. But wait, here's the best part, he stunned the mob in the very last event - discus - by somehow throwing the most enormous lob (pure arse - he's tiny) and taking out a shiny red 2nd place ribbon. I can't describe this child's happy face. I'll also say this, I would have done it for any kid I thought wasn't going to get a ribbon and am often known to cheat at sports day when measuring long jump or vortex throw to ensure every child goes home with at least one ribbon. Just had to share it. It is hours later and I am still paying back the oxygen debt. What is that thing, Lisa? Lactic acid? Well it's big time in my system right now!

Reading is my greatest luxury these days because if I'm reading then I'm not writing. I run a business with my husband which soaks up the working day and I'm trying somehow to be a halfway decent mother to our sons - which demands all the rest of my hours until 9pm so I have very little spare time. Not complaining - I choose it to be this way but it means I have to be very disciplined and not be tempted to bury my head in a book which kills me sometimes!
Favourite 'other' books would include absolutely anything by Sharon Penman, absolutely anything by Sebastien Faulks and then odds and sods like Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett; Talisman by Peter Straub and Stephen King and plenty of others I've probably forgotten. I used to commute to London every day from Brighton - one hour of hurtling through the countryside which I never looked at because I used to devour novels. Ludlum and thrillers were my go 20 years ago but now I have an eclectic taste and will try anything if I like the writing. I have recently treated myself to Bone Doll's Twin by Lynn Flewelling which is well worth a read whilst you wait for Destiny (grin) and a very scary thriller called The White Road by John Connolly. Loved Girl with a Pearl Earring and even Green Mile which I found very disturbing.
Glad you'll be a regular. Talk soon.

Wow! You are very passionate about reading! I guess you picked it up because you spent a lot of time travelling - and the thrill of it too. I have to travel to and from University by train, which is 3 hours all up! Though I still have to explore more novels - as you could tell from my list...!
Great! You have expanded my choices! I trust your judgement. I'll have a look at Bone Doll's Twin by Lynn Flewelling.
Maybe I should leave time to read my text books too!
What do you talk about with other people? I hope I wasn't asking too many personal questions!
Thanks for giving your time to chat!
Bye for now!

You got it, hon. Lactic acid will be coursing through your vein right about... well, back then, and if you don't keep those muscels moving, you are going to be one giant lactic acid crystal in the morning. Just some slow, easy, warming exercise tonight, then maybe a hundred yard dash in the morning

Good on ya!!! You sure do have spirit.
And kudos on the undie selection this morning. There is always something to be gained by picking the bloomers over the g.

Good on you Fiona.....what a fantastic mum....... No wonder the medication is flowing freely with the images that Lisa is conjuring up of Crusie. Can sympathise with you Fiona as I went ten pin bowling yesterday and am paying for it today although there is a feeling of satisfaction in knocking down the neat rows of pins.
