Ok we all relate to characters differently when reading books. For one reason or another we pick up our own special favorites.

It is difficult not to like Cloot for instance but who is the Character you most relate to? Who is the Character you become? (yes you too Fiona)

Figgis? hmmm gotta read the last book, but he has perked my interest.

Crusie, I think you liked Figgis because of his stature... or lack there of... <img src=">

Yeah, Cloot is a rather enjoyable read. It's good that the 'hero' has someone there who doesn't suck up all the time and pretty much keeps his feet on the ground (Tor's feet, not Cloot's), and dry sarcasm does that the best.

As to who I most relate too... right at the moment.... Lauren, possibly. I'm lazy when I know I shouldn't be, I'm often confused about what's going on around me (and react badly to things I don't understand) and I hate feeling alone. Though I probably would have just sat down and cried instead of getting my arse into gear and saving myself.

Great question Crusie!

Who do I relate to?...depends on what level. My favourite character without hesitation is Cloot. The character I'd most like to meet is Cyrus. I'm very much in love with him. Very sexy guy. :b

Lisa without doubt you were lauren. :lol

Actually many of my favorite characters are short of stature. Expecially Wolverine, 5 foot 3 hairy with an attitude. Not hard to realise why I relate so much to him. <img src="> Most dwarfs have an attitude as well so... :lol

Fiona I can't write to save my life but I sort of wonder if when an author writes if they become certain characters. I imagine Hobb became Fitz (mainly because the story is written in the first person <that is right first person isn't it?>;) Do you actually slip into character mode when writing?

I have to agree with you there. Writting characters means you become them. While writting book one, I often found myself going to sleep with the characters in my head, constantly jumping around. Very disturbing sometimes.

So, Fiona.... what's the next trilogy about??? Sounds interesting....

It about an Axe wielding maniac from perth that walks the width of the contry to murder an inquisitive queenslander that continually squeezes spoilers out of a new fantasy author based in adelaide. On the way walking back he picks up some chocolate cakes freshly baked by said author. <img src=">

Oh oh oh!!! Sounds cool!

Do you think we're in it, Crusie???? I think we should be. You can be the nosey queenslander and I will be the author. Yeah. Cool.

I think the truth is that when you write characters you do become them. You have to imagine how they'll react to every conversation. I loved writing Cyrus when he lost his temper with Tor in Betrayal for example - it seemed so very real. Doing Goth was ugly work because he's so far away from my mindset that I had horrible thoughts he'd become comical. Of all of them Tor was the easiest. The next trilogy is going to be a riot because of this very issue we're discussing. Will tell you more and explain why it sounds so cryptic once I set to and start writing. I'm giving myself a fortnight off to gather my wits and help the boys get a HUGE homework project out of the way! :

I do enjoy reading this stuff! Join in anyone else. Don't let these two hog it! I shall definitely put them both in next story but won't tell them who's who - they'll have to guess!

Ooh, you're such a tease!

Sooooo... this next trilogy is going to have a witty, devilishly handsome fella and a charming, sweet, professional female kickboxer in it, huh??

Wow.

I tended to relate to Quist, bit of a rogue but lives by certain standards. Also found Orlac an interesting character. Sort of a victim of circumstance. Would like to say more but don't want to say to much for those that haven't read the second book yet.

btw Fiona, I am currently reading a book entitled "The devils cup" which is about the history and myths of the humble coffee bean.

It is non-fiction but goes into some of the myths and half truths about its origin. It has been quite a good read at the moment.

Is it fiction? I would love to write a story based on chocolate. Don't all howl me down I've read the book and seen the movie! I'm talking more about the history of chocolate and weaving a story about it. This is mainly because it would require lots and lots of delicious research!
