SPOILERS, SPOILERS SPOILERS!!!!! Hi there Kari OUCH!!! Got to be careful about spoiling the stories for readers coming after you who might accidentally stumble into this thread and have the plot of the tales ruined for them.... Just remember to put the word spoilers many times, either in your subject line or certainly before you start writing and then leave lots of space. Then you've given anyone ample warning that you're going to discuss the stories and reveal info from books 2 or 3 even. Hope that's okay? Now, it seems everyone but me hates Lorys. I think he's a fine king but don't question yourself....most of the readers really dislike him for his vulnerability regarding Alyssa. I actually think that's a very real human trait. We don't always pick who we fall in love with. How many times have you seen or heard about odd couples, who don't seem to match up on paper and yet make a great go of it? That's all about chemistry and we can't always see it coming at us until it happens. Certainly happened between my husband and I who are as unalike as you could get - direct opposites - and yet it was love at first sight for me and here we are about to celebrate our 24th year together and still poles apart in personality but joined at the hip emotionally. Lorys didn't want it to happen and we know Alyssa didn't and yet neither could help what occurred. Heartfelt thanks to you for enjoying the stories so much - I can feel the enthusiasm bubbling off my screen and I'm very grateful for it and here's to you enjoying Emissary as much as Odalisque. Bye for now. Talk soon. F

Kari, I hope you'll forgive us - I asked Terame to do the 'spoiler' thing so that your post doesn't get read accidentally by an unsuspecting new reader who may realise too late that they're gleaning major bits of the trilogies. Talk soon and thanks again for understanding. F

ah soz!!! sorry

congrats anyways on 24 years  but i think with 'disliking' Lorys is that i felt so sorry 4 Tor. coz at the end of Revenge i thought Alyssa might reject him coz of it... i dont think it had much 2 do with differences between the 2.

and i was also wondering if theres a 'name theme' going in the different series like in the Quickening and (kinda in) the Trinity, 'y' replaces 'i' alot and in Odalisque theres lots of 'z.' another thing is the Sharvan leaf in the Quickening and the Sharvan in Odalisque... (sorry i just love little subliminal things )

thanx 4 replying (no otha authors do that, but its gr8 u do! and i betcha lots of otha fans think that 2!)

Kari

Oh blimey have I mentioned sharvan leaf in both books....you clever thing you! I'd better get that changed - how embarrassing. Once I begin work on a new story I really do forget the detail of the previous one. Trinity feels like such a long time ago now. Yes, for Trinity and Quickening I was in my Y phase and Percheron I've clearly moved into my Z phase. For the next series I think I may go X.....what do you think?

sweet! like... in our world there r name themes so i think its only better that in othas there r 2... it seems to give ur worlds more of a character which also rubs off on the protagonists. like in Odalisque the z gives a kind of 'spice' to Percheron the city. but x sounds cool! so... about this new book... wats it about!

the sharvan leaf thing i thought was like John Marsden's Alfie which always comes up in every series/book of his. like as teddy bears or friends etc. i think it was spelled the same in Trinity as it was in the Quickening  either way it rocks

lol i also noticed a couple of similarities with your new Percheron series and with Trinity... Namely that when Alyssa goes to become an "Untouchable" Then at one point in "Odalisque" Ana is referred to as being "Untouchable now"...

Generally in societies that there are Harem's, the women in them where considered untouchable though. They where the property of there husband. They where meant to be beautiful and mysterious. In Trinity i think it's more a pseudo-monastaric discipline thing then a property thing. The women where meant to of moved towards a more wholesome peace with themselves then being sexually aware.

I'm sorry if i'm scary.

Spoilers ahead, please highlight text to read...you were warned===============================================================

I actually really like Lorys as a character. As much as I did hate him and Alyssa for betraying Tor, I can absolutely understand the attraction between them. At the same time I really hated Tor for betraying Alyssa. I think one of the other reasons I love Lorys and especially Magnus and Lazar is that they do pose such firm father figure in the books. I don't know, there's just something about them that I really love and wish was real. Much like all the characters in Fi's books - with the exception of the pure evil in Salmeo and Celimus and Goth. *shudder*

But I'm with Fi in the I-Don't-Hate-Lorys club. That trilogy gave me a much needed Fi-hit once I'd discovered Myrren's Gift and that Blood and Memory was still a few months away from release - much to my horror. I actually still have the bookmark I took from Dymocks that advertised the release of B&M in a few months time. It's stuck proudly on my wall.

Haha, I'm insane. :P
