Okay, before anyone else starts bombarding me, Lisa from Queensland has already drawn my attention to the fact that Russell Kirkpatrick already has a town called Percheron on one of his maps. All I can say is fabulously talented and creative minds think alike! I have had Percheron written down since before I wrote Betrayal so it was a shock to hear that RK had already used it. Anyway R has incredibly generously insisted I use it. He mentions that it's not an important place in his books and if only he'd known how important it was for my next series, he would have changed the name. Isn't that amazingly kind. Truth is, I'd already realised I'd probably have to change the name of my series as he was clearly first to have it published.

All's well that ends well. Looks like we can go ahead and call my make believe land, Percheron and neither RK or HarperCollins minds.

Thanks, Russell and Lisa for bringing our attention to it. F

Oops... Can I take some comfort in being merely the pebble that started the avalanche?

I don't usually scrutinise maps in books that hard, but with Russ, ya kinda hafta. I didn't think he would mind, but I thought HC might...

Glad it's all good.

I'd never heard of this dude, so I searched and found his home page...and checked-out the maps.

www.voyageronline.com.au/...images.cfm

Now here's a weird thing. I don't like them, cause they look too much like...maps. I like my fantasy maps to be those daggy hand drawn things, with little spiky mountains and "Here be Dragons" written on the edge...just under those fat cherub faces blowing the wind.

Adios :hat

I got myself off the academic grind this week just to see how and where everyone was - LOL as usual - glad to see the membership numbers increase and activity lively as usual. After next week I will be back on the academic treadmill and may not arise for another few months. Meantime am reading Bridge of Souls and will emerge to read the release of Pecheron v1 and Myrenn's Gift US version. Of late have noticed how many thinks Middle eastern are around - turkish delight/ lokum, carpets, pashtak, sour cherries, figs, dates, hallal food supplies (Rainbow on Sth Rd does Turkish food supplies) - Turkish food and cooking utensils (OxFAM shops) belly dancing (all over the place at present), travelogues on SBS, ABC and Ch9 - not to mention news items about Turkish law and politics, water issues and threats of war. Anywhere you look there is potential for a book about the mysteries of the Oriental east. Pecheron is a shift from the familiar images of the Trinity and The Quickening - and how the magic will be interwoven this time is a mystery I can't wait to read about. By the time I have completed the main draft of my thesis it will be out and I can enjoy it. Hope all is well in Pecheron. :gold

Is the map with the town of Percheron there? I can't be bothered scrutinising them all.
