The wonderful Matt Whitney, whom most of you who attend the book club will know, came to my rescue when I was copping all the flak about the map in Odalisque. I've already explained how it came about but I do try and listen to readers and attend to their needs when it's possible, so I decided I must design a more fulfilling display of Percheron for those who love maps. Matt is begining to flex his muscles as a map producer and I told him to go for broke on Percheron and the results of his efforts can be seen in the forthcoming mass market version of Odalisque - I hope you are all as pleased and proud as I am for Matt. His work will now continue through Emissary and Goddess in the trade and mass market version. It will also find its way into the American and British and no doubt all the foreign translated version as and when they occur. I'm hoping this launches Matt as a designer of fantasy worlds but I'm hoping it won't stop his writing either! Good luck, Matt and thanks for your fabulous work. Fx

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I love the original map. To me, it suits the style of story. Distances in this story meant little to the plot, but style was everything.

Having sat through Russell Kirkpatrick's mapping 'lecture' I probably appreciate the elegent simplicity of this map even more. Russell is a delight and I laughed so hard I though I'd cry in places, but not every story needs a detail laden map.

Having said that, congratulations to Matt!! World wide fame!

Cheers, Lisa.

Ahhh, the Great Map Discussion ... I love it. Who'd have thunk that humble, yet totally appropriate, wee drawing would have got sooo much mileage. Adios :pimp
