This book is on order from my bookclub. I hope it'll arrive on time for me to read... I'm as fast a reader as you are, I'm afraid. Although I'm working on my technique. How do you do it?

Manon the trick is not to read along the lines but to read te page... don't look too closely and follow the lines like you were taught at school... look at whole page and read it away from you... you take more in that way.

well works for me.

Well, the thing with that, Soldier, is that at school we used to read aloud. When it was time, the teacher told us to do the same thing, but in our heads instead. So, like the obedient and compliant little girl that I was, that's what I did: reading each word and repeating them in my head... which makes for a very slow read. It was fine to build my English vocabulary, but now I'm ready for the next step, that is look at the word and recognize it without having to say it.

Manon

Actually I know what you mean... I am welsh and speak welsh... and some bad english.

I lived in Germany and learnt german... and speak some poor french... often... I think in welsh, translate to german wen in fact I want to say it in french....

Very embarrassing in Paris asking for a table for two in german with an english accent... hehe

Probably confirms what idiots the brits are to the parisienne populance...

I have noticed a cruise brochure appear on my desk for a trip to canada and alaska... mmmmmmmm I wonder if a certain female is reminding me that I promised her a trip to canada?

I did not intend to do Quebec... was going to start at Toronto and finish in B.C but now I have a differnet opinion...

I have booked to go La guillotine on friday, taking my own chateauneuf du pape (they can't get it) have a few bottles of chablis... some canard a'la orange, creme brulee and pernod...
Will raise a toast to you and Quebec.

Montreal has heaps of summer activities going on, among them the Jazz Festival and the Just For Laughs Festival (stand-up comics). Do a search on the net and I'm sure you'll find lots of information. Quebec is a very beautiful province, and if you decide to visit, I'm sure you won't be disapointed. Let me know when you're coming, and I'll show you around...

I gather La Guillotine is your local French restaurant? With a name like that, I'd be afraid to go there! But enjoy the Chateauneuf (I will definitely have to introduce you to our variety of wines), and have a great night!

yes, la guillotine is a great french restaurant... also has a miniature guillotine, the chef bakes his own bread and it is so scrummy.

The canard and lapin are so gorgeous... mmmmmmmmm can't wait to try it.

Steve

I confess that I am not reading this one. I picked it up and tried the first ten or so pages but it just didn't appeal to me, and I couldn't bring myself to part with the money to buy it.

It is probably my loss but there you go.

I'm reading. Enjoying it so far, but I can see why some wouldn't like it. There's some things that I have trouble reading, but overall, it's enjoyable. I'll save the rest of my comments for the club....

Brad.
