I finally finished Chaz Brenchley's Hand of the Kings Evil, book 3 of the Outremer trilogy, the other week. It only took me three months to read. Interesting enough story (although the ending was very lame) but the writing style made it very hard going, for me anyway. Any budding writers out there should spend an hour or two reading one of these books. The style is so unlike the normal run of the mill fantasy writing. I'm not suggesting you should buy it (unless of course it appeals to you) but have a look at it.

After that I read Birds of Prey by Wilbur Smith - what a great storyteller he is.

Just finished Honored Enemy by Feist and whoever. far and away his worst book in my opinion. If rubbish like that can get published there must be hope for the rest of us - of course he has the advatage of having been successfully published for years.

Lord of Emperors by GGK. need I say more, wonderful as always, such marvelous use of the english language. What a letdown to go from that to Feist's effort.

Currently reading book 3 of Mark Anthony's Last Rune series. Sorry can't remember the name off the top of my head. I like this series. Don't ask why, theres nothing special about it, but I like it. Which is really all that matters.

Oh and I've been reading superannuation stuff for the assignment I had to hand in today. Started writing it yesterday so hopefully it will scrape by.

You don't like Fallon, Steve??

I have to admit that I stalled at about page ten of Lion of Senet, but I was putting that down to a reluctance to read anything at the moment.

I'm just finishing Arcturius Landing by Gordon R.Dickson. (Having recently re-read Heinlein's The Door into Summer and John Stanley's World War III...can't remember what I read before that.)

I keep picking up LotR, The Two Towers, as I'm trying to refresh my memory before the second movie comes out...but it's slow going.

Adios :hat

Blood of Mystery, book 4 in the series, although it is the last out, it is by no means the last in the series. More are coming out: The Gates of Winter is book 5, and The First Stone will be book 6. No more after that. According to the author, that is. <img src=">

I am reading Fortress of Grey Ice, the second book in JV Jones' latest trilogy. It is brilliant with a similar feel to JRR Martin but better. Her style is evolving with each book and she just gets better and better.

I also have had the Warhost of Vastmark by Janny Wurts sitting around for weeks. I just can't get into it because her writing style is so tedious. Her storylines and ideas are really interesting, but she just can't write. Her prose is like mud, stiffened with concrete and toffee.

Thank goodness for novelists who can actually write, such as JVJ, Sara D and Fiona M.

I found the characters in this book to be much more rounded and not as one dimensional as in her previous series.

The story was better crafted in my opionion although it would not be up there with the greats I enjoyed it for what it was a good light read.

Milander skiming through Janny Wurts books is just not possible there is so much detail in them. The wars of light and shadows is one of my favourite series but they are a dense read
