Anyone ever read Ringworld from Larry Niven?

I read Integral Trees a long time ago, and I remember liking it. But Ringworld I'm having all kinds of trouble with. The characters are very slapdash, IMO, and Niven seems to jump and take quite a few things for granted every so often. Pacing is weird. Urgh.

I guess it's somewhat related to the thing being one big travelogue. The goal of the book is really to see the Ringworld and the Puppeteer world, not much else. But even that is a touch silly, though it's probably from the age of the book. We're so much more advanced technologically than 30 years ago.

Anyway, what did everyone else think?

Brad.

haven't read it but coincidentally picked it up today having met him at Westercon. Not sure it's my bag. I shall have to ease into sci fi very gradually with lighter stuff I think.

Fiona,

Integral Trees might be more your bag, but if you get into Ringworld, let me know what you think.

Brad.
