Some of my fave writers over the years have been:
Gene Wolfe, Allan Cole,Mercedes Lackey,Ursula K Le guin, Marion Zimmer Bradley,Rosemary edghill, J.V. Jones, David Eddings, Peter Morwood, Robert E Vardeman, Feist, Jordan, Brooks, L E Modesitt... ie all the usual gang

Try them for a good fantasy read

George McDonald Fraser... flashman books... are superb.

Tom Sharpe... Comedy... saucy British humour.

Philip Jose Farmer... Riverworld books are out of this world.

Thats a start

I have read a few books.

Some I liked are:

The ship who searched
Take a thief
Bard's Tales series
Arrow's series

but my fave was Black Swan.

have you read all the valdemar books?? i think they are the better ones of all her novels, though i like the stand alone books about elemental magics. take a thief, was that any good? cos i have been trying to get my hands on it, and the first and last time i saw it was at minotaur bookstore in melbourne....
