I have decided to go with Chaz Brenchley. It's not an easy read but I will have the added pleasure of finishing a series. It also has a desert setting, which makes a change.

The real curse of being a fantasy reader is that almost every story is written as a trilogy (or longer). I worked it out quickly and am in the process of reading about 12 different series, some of which have been going on for years (eg Jordan). So it is a real thrill to actually finish one.

Not that I'll get much reading done for the next month with the World Cup starting tomorrow. Four and a half hours of soccer a day for a month, what better sporting heaven could a person ask for? Although I'm not sure my wife and 2 year old will agree.

Yes, the fever has begun at our office too. Being English I do enjoy football as we call it over there but Paul who works with us and designed this site by the way is a dribbling, drooling, hysterical Man Utd fan and a lionhearted England follower so with Australia tragically out (not used to us not being right up there) then I shall be pushing for Beckham and the boys to carve a trail of fire all the way to holding up that Cup but it won't be easy, I know.

Could I think of anything better? Yes, Aussie Rules Grand Final Day with the Adelaide Crows winning against the Lions or Essendon .... or World Cup Cricket.

F

p.s. BH...I'm blushing even more furiously now - I've pictured you as a gal!

p.p.s. Trilogies are hugely annoying, I agree, from the reading perspective, especially if you get onto it from the moment book one is released - then it's a tiresome wait. Which is why I insisted my books come out every six months so I don't keep the readers waiting so long they just forget about it or lose all the threads from their minds. However, when I tried to suggest a stand alone book, the publisher went pale. No, trilogies are apparently what the readers want!

Today I finished Green Rider by Kristen Britain - work is very slow. Very enjoyable for a first novel ( not up to Fiona's standards but then who is?).

My quandary now is what do I read next? Should I read the last volume of Chaz Brenchleys Outremer series; the third book of Mark Anthony's Last Rune series; the third book of David Farland's Runelords series; or Sean Russel's The One Kingdom?

I'm leaning towards Chaz Brenchley - that way I can at least get another series finished.

Or should I try something else entirely?

I'm blushing BH, thank you. I need to bottle you lot and carry you around with me!

I'll never keep up with all of you for reading. However, apart from Kushiel's Dart which I am now into and enjoying. For a first book this is mighty and she has quite a poetic manner of writing.

The big rage seems to be Red Tent. I might have mentioned that before somewhere but Sara D gave it a big hurrah and now I notice people at her site are raving too. Just a thought.

I forgive you Fiona - although I won't ask what it was that made you think I was female or what you thought "Big Hills" referred to.

I'm sorry to hear you have to work with a Man Utd supporter, but we all have our crosses to bear.

I would normally refer to it as football myself ( being born in England before my parents brought me out to sunny (although not so sunny at the moment) Adelaide) but thought I had better refer to it as soccer so as not to confuse those who follow the lesser footballing codes!

And I agree the cricket World Cup is right up there but you only get a couple of games a week when that's on.

Okay Big Hills I won't tell you what made me think you were of the superior sex. But you are going to have to tell me which team you support because if it's Liverpool, I'll have to stop Paul working on the site because he'll come over queasy.

Lesser codes of football - my big toe! I'd like to see Zidane Z run into no.32 of the Crows.

You are Crows man aren't you BH?...don't you dare say that other word on this site...arrrrggghhh!

You're outnumbered Frank...it's two against one for England unless one of the others chips in for you.

ROTFLMAO two against one??? :lol

those are the sort of odds England need against Italy to have any chance. Mwhahahahaha

When it comes to World Cups, England are like flakey pastries. hehehehe

Tell you what if we meet then I'll see what we can do about playing with 8 men....you know just to make a game of it. :lol

As for two against one on the AFL scene I don't think I can handle more than one Crow. OMG :eek *runs away screaming*

Fiona I'm really confused now. If you thought I was of the superior sex why did you think I was female? Isn't that contradictory?

And yes I do follow the Crows. Like every right minded person in Adelaide I support two teams - the Crows and whoever is playing Port (except of course when it is Collingwood, a team every sane person in the known world despises).

As for the Azzuri winning the World Cup all I can say is "Ha, surely you jest! Senegal has more chance."

Oh and I support that most cosmopolitan of London teams: Chelsea.
