Wanted a bit of light reading so went out and bought monkey by Wu Ch'êng-ên which is the book the Monkey tv series was based on. It was written in the middle of the sixteenth century so thought I would see what it is like. Very easy to read but not big on plot or subtlety. Suppose you couldn't expect much more considering when it was written and that it has been translated from its native chinese.

Hey, did they end up saying whether or not Trippytakka (?sp, phonetic spelling is good enough, did I spell phonetic right??) was a boy or girl?? I always thought he was a girl, but he was a priest, apparently....

50/50 huh?? Well, that's better odds than some these days. It sure is hard to tell gender just by looking at some teenagers lately....

And to think, it used to be boys playing girls in Shakespear plays.

Ah Monkey. They don't make shows like that anymore - realistic characters, realistic storylines, good scripting and such great acting - what more could you ask for? I was always a big Piggsy fan myself.
