Hey all,
has anyone read Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series?
.....If none has then i shall be forced to correct your heinous mistake)

(lol just kiding)
No, seriously it is perhaps the best Fantasy series there ever was/ is/ or will be.
I feel i must warn you though, it currently consists of 10 books plus a prequal with more to come.
(I can't wait till then :bananas :rofl )
Now, on to Robin Hobb,
in my opinion deserves the same praise as above, perhaps more so.
Ingenious story line and characters. And in case no one is enlightened to this fact, The Liveship Traders does indeed have something to do with all his other series, The Farseer Trilogy and The Tawny Man, because.....here it is....Amber is the FOOL!! :lol if you read The Tawny Man series you will find out (oh and Amber carves Parigon, the crazy liveship in the likeness of fitz *surprise*)
Well thats my rant :rant lol, i hope i have enlightened you to the wonderful world of Robert Jordan and revealed secrets previouly unkown :rofl
Well another day people.

Read and enjoyed 'em both, although Jordan doesn't have a strong fanbase here from what I remember when I asked a similiar question.
Who's your favorite character from WoT? Least favorite? Best scene and/or Book?
Love Fitz and the rest of Hobb's characters, read all nine books she's published under Robin Hobb. Although next time could you please post a spoiler notice before mentioning something like The Fool/Amber:beer Which series did you prefer? Farseers, Liveships or Tawny Man? And the same questions as above...

Hey, sorry bout the wait.
Fav character in WoT? hmmm would probably have to be........either Rand or Mat there both good.
Least favourite? perhaps The Aes Sedai as a whole (i hope i spelt that right)
Best book is maybe....Book 1-3 i guess (not sure which)
I find i must agree with you, Fitz is the best in my opinion and the rest are great to.
Yes all 9 books are great ( my favorite series is the Twany Man).
For a surprise a find a had no least favorite characters when i think about it.
although my least favorite series was probably The Liveship Traders (not really sure why, it just is)
lol ok i'll take your advice next time i post some secrets (but did you know?)

the first time I read the books, I read them out of order, Liveships first then Farseers so I didn't see a connection between Fool and Amber but the second time through, just before Fool's Errand - I read in order and noticed some of the hints Hobb placed
*SPOILER* Paragon's new face, the extraordanary ability with carving and the speech about the prophets who seek to change the world for the better with their catalysts *SPOILER OVER*
I still didn't guess they were the same person until we met Lord Golden, the resembalance between him and and Amber was too obvious to pass up and then the connection was made.

Yeah, i didn't really get the Amber part when i read the Liveships, but after well it was pretty obvious.

I'm reading the Farseer trilogy atm and am enjoying it alot. I read the Liveship Traders a few years back and enjoyed it alot also.
Wish there'd been a spoiler warning above before I read that Amber is the Fool... grrrr !!!
Robert Jordan, hmm, I read the Wheel of Time years ago (up to book 7, never got through 8) and having to wait so many years inbetween each book really got to me in the end. I'd read so many great books inbetween 6-7 and then 7-8 that when I went back to WoT I found it just didn't couldn't my interest, but that me.
I'd recommend Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series above WoT anyday, and have.

I'd recommend just about anything, ( including My Big Fat Scary Slimy Green Alien Wedding ) above WoT.

As I remember her, she suffers fools not well...she'd be more likely to gut Jordan than to save him or his sad creation.

I like Jordan's style of writing but i don't really enjoy WoT anymore. The first couple were great but it's just... well i want it to end now. It's going on way to long. And the only chracter i like is Lan and I don't mind Perrin because i have this little obssession with wolves. But i can't stand Rand and all those girls around him.
Robin Hobb.. well don't get me started. I love Fitz and the Fool too much. She's absoluely fantastic ( I even stole this little flap thing from the book (stating the date) since I borrowed it from school (but of course i own them all now)).
Anyways...of course I'm still going to read the WoT (but i've only bought up to book 5) I heard that it gets better... lol

Yeah, any number of people thought that...round about book three, (the theory being that it was sooo bad by then that it couldn't possibly get any worse.)
Just goes to show you how wrong any number of people can be.

Ohhhhhkayyyyy - I won't waste my precious time on WoT, then. It sounds like it's too much like Goodkind - it goes on too damn long. Now don't get me wrong, I love the sword of truth series ...... but I really do feel that the series has gone on about three or four books too long.

I got put onto WoT at around book 5. This was one of the first "epic" fantasy series I read and loved them until I had to wait like 3 years before the next book was released. I ended up reading up until book 7 but by the time book 8 came around I just couldn't remember what was going on, the copious amount of side plots etc etc - I've given up on Jordan. Maybe one day....
Robin Hobb's 3 trilogies (Farseer, Liveship, Tawny Man) are one of my favourite series of all times. Fantastic read !!!
Goodkind, love the man and his story. Has anyone else read up to and including Chainfire ? IMO Chainfire is the fastest paced of the whole series...at points I though I was reading a Salvatore novel !! There were a couple fo books in the series that were pretty slow, but the overall story has made up for them, well for me anyways. Chainfire is the first book in the final trilogy of the sword of Truth... can't wait to see how it all ends up.

I've only got up to umm.. well the third book of Terry Goodkind's series. My local library isn't too good and i've ran out of money to buy more books. (I think i need a job...Lol). I don't know why but it didn't really grab me. I've just finished.. umm... Russell Kirkpatrick's series and they're wonderful epic fantasty. So if you haven't read them before and if you have the time Erad, you should read those. And i totally agree with you that Hobb's series are "fantastic."
ALSO: has anyone read His Dark Material's by Philip Pullman? I absolutely love the series especially since there are william blake and john milton quotes in there. It's going to be made into a movie BUT they're taking out the whole religious thing which i think will ruin the books. *sighs*... I hope it'll still be ok...

Well there is not much that needs saying about Robin Hobb. Brilliant pretty much sums it up. Read the Liveship Traders first then Assassin then Tawny Man. Have recently purchased Shamans Crossing but have yet to read it.
As for the WOT. Who gives a flying rats backside. I read up to book 6, and was struggling by then, and had to wait way too long for the next installment. When it arrived I pushed painfully through it, then came another huge wait for book 8. I started it and put it stright back down. Not only could I barely remember what had happened before, I found I no longer cared. Anything this painful to read was not worth continuing. I may get back to it one day to see what happened the Rand, but I doubt it. Thats my 2 cents.
