Anyone looking forward to this one?? Love Ancient Greek Mythology, especially Trojan War. And to see Aussies in the cast is great too.
And lotsa swordfighting. Loooove swordfighting. Don't want to see people die though.
But I am definately going to see it. Was wondering if anyone else was interested in it as well.

I've seen the trailer at the movies, and the opening is amazing.
BUT, overall, I have my doubts.
Will I see it?
Probably.
Even so so fantasy/mythology/whatever is good enough for me.

With Sean Bean as Odysseus..... First he plays my favorite LOTR character, now he's off playing my fave "legendary" character..... Life is good! And me melting into puddle on floor as I think about it.
Counting down the days!

Ah the swords of bronze, the round shields, the leather laplaps. How many fantasy fans took to the genre through the tales of Simbad, Jason, Odyseus and Hercules on the big screen of those 'spagetti fantasies'?
For myself the idea of seeing some serious acting talent bring to life Achiles, Hector, Odyseus and Paris to name but a few is a childhood dream come true.
When I saw the trailer, with the masses of Hellenic warships positively sent shivers down my spine.
The popcorn, the choc top and the pure escapism are just a babysitter and away.
Sigh

Wow!
All I can say without ruining this film with spoilers galore is that it was truly an epic.
Fans of Homer be warned. Although I didn't go in expecting accuracy, just as I didn't when seeing LOTR (Lord Of The Rings) this does diverge from the story in many many ways.
It was a ten year war after all. So this is a very compacted version, the seige taking up a few weeks. That's Holywood.
HOWEVER that said?
Stand the movie on it's own merits and judging it on it's ability to capture the character of a hero which was indeed Homer's intention in the original and this film stands out.
The humanity of each of the primary characters are given their due, and their justifications for the way they lead their life is seemlessly inserted throughout.
Peter O-Toole is a scene stealer no a MOVIE-Stealer in a momentous scene with Brad Pitt, which if it doesn't tug at the heart strings, then I'll assume you're undead ,)
I have forgotten something. Banna... what a performance! He was so believable as a greek hero I was amazed.
Now for the battles...
The one-on-ones are truly amazing. The corography more of a ballet, and if you thought shields were used to defend boring old I'll hit you now you hit me styled duels of the movies in the 50s, then watch Brad Pitt and Banna...
As I said, for me this was an
EPIC.

I have seen the previews and even though it looks spectacular with the battles and the look of the period, I'm sorry but Brad Pitt is not one of my favourite actors. It seems to me Hollywood is getting the female audience in with it's star hunks as they are known. He's there to get the female dollars. I'll probably see it on video anyway. I prefer epic style films with actors, not really on Hollywood stars to draw me in. LOTR is a prime example of choosing actors not multimillion dollar stars which is why I love this type of epic film. I know this review sounds negative and I haven't seen it yet, but when I eventually see it I know what to expect. However the supporting cast looks good and the look and battles will be great to see.

With apologies to Terame, I thought Troy was the worst, the dumbest, the most disappointing movie I'd seen in quite some time.
I went with a mate...for the first 10 minutes or so we piched it apart, (and yes, even in the first 10 minutes, there's plenty to pick apart) then we gave up and just laughed at it. But the problem is that it's not meant to be a comedy, is it?
I can't remember the last time I saw a movie with sooo many glaring errors...and I don't mean things left out or added to the story etc...I just mean dumb stuff that was really annoying to watch.
Mabey the rest of you, like Terame, will enjoy it...but I wouldn't count on it.

Now that was a fun movie. It's a Classic...couldn't tell you how many times I've watched it over the years.
The Apaches would probably laugh themselves silly if I tried to get them to watch it these days, but I loved it...hokey SFX and all.
