I have just seen a great movie called Dark Blue World. It's from the Czech Republic, although it was filmed in England and also has an english cast hence the language spoken is czech and english.
It tells the story of two friends caught up in the onset of WW2. They flee their native country to avoid the nazis and become Spitfire piolits in southern England. Their frindship is put to the test when they each fall in love with the same woman.
It is shown in flashback. Czech piolits who returned to thier homeland after WW2 were imprisioned because it was believed of thier experience with non-communist countries might pose a threat. The film interwines between their life in prison and the life they had in England.
The film is great with it's attention to detail and the dogfight scenes are the best I've seen in along time, due no doubt to CGI, however I felt the subplot of the love between the two friends and the woman wasn't engaging enough. It seemed to me just thrown into the script. However it is well worth seeing. It has been billed "In the tradition of Pearl Harbor". In my experiences with movies, "In the tradition" usually means ripped off storyline, but this film is far better than Pearl Harbor. Although I mentioned the love scenario wasn't engaging enough it is still a well acted film and a testament to the brave Czech piolits who often get overlooked in WW2 movies.

I know what you mean Snowyfriend, but believe me this film is far better. Pearl Harbor had some terrible diologue and the only asset was the battle FX images. Unfortunately both films were released at the same time so moviegoers are caught between which film is a rip off, and under most circumstances the filmmakers are unaware of a similar film being shown which is almost like their own. If you liked Pearl Harbor, Dark Blue World is even better.
