This is not a big budget movie, despite what the trailers would have you believe. This is a B-Grade, SciFi flick...but...it's not a bad B-Grade SciFi flick. I suspect how much you enjoy Riddick will depend on how much you enjoyed Pitch Black or how much you like Vin Diesel. I thoroughly enjoyed Pitch Black and I thought Diesel was great in it, so I was perfectly happy with this sequel. AND, given that it isn't taken from a book that I've read, or that it isn't ripping the soul out of some favourite story, (insert Troy & Arthur here) I could just sit back and be entertained. Now, having said that, I can understand why it gets bad reviews and I wouldn't bitch at anyone who doesn't like it. It does have flaws. It's an action flick. It charges from one fight-scene to the next, with odd outbreaks of dialogue in between...and you get the distinct impression that not too much of the budget was spent on scrpit writers. The one thing that did annoy me a little, (but it annoys me with a lot of films, so I've learned to live with it, ) is some of the casting. The dude that plays the head bad-guy isn't bad enough looking by half. He looks like an accountant who'd be very uncomfortable with the concept of destroying the universe. On the other hand, the second head bad guy is played by Karl Urban, who played Eomer in LotR...and he's pretty cool. Anyway, there you have it. You might like it...but you might not. You pays your money and you takes your chances. Adios :pimp

Hey DM, is it a sequel or prequel to Pitch Black? Looking forward to seeing it, but might be a wait until DVD title for me, as Hellboy is a calin' :) :y

Should have read this before I replied to the other post... Yay! There are two in the universe who didn't hate this movie!! There were supposed to be three 'Chronicles' movies all up, but after this one did so bad at the box office I won't be suprised if the others don't get made. DN, I wasn't at all disappointed with the bad guy in this. I thought it was a step away from the usual villan one usually comes across in these types of films. He was coming totally from a position of FAITH, not greed or desire or revenge. And anyway, it's not how bad you look, but how deep the bad goes... ,) Cheers, Lisa.

No its not !!! If your going to be the big bad villan who destroys the universe, then you should at least have the decency to look the part. As a wise old Celt once said. Some people talk about it...and some people BE about it. Adios :pimp

I'm with DN again. I kept waiting for the bad guy to straighten his tie I liked Pitch Black , bad guys at night,a typical fantasy(sword & sorcery) idea, applied to science fiction vin diesel didn't do anything wrong :beer

i didnt really like Pitch Black, but I must admit The Chronicles of Riddick is an interesting movie, in a good way. Firstyly, Vin Diesel is hott...and secondly the graphics are really good.

I know it may not be the best movie in the world but I have it on DvD and it was worth it...:)

Earlier, Li said, "Yay! There are two in the universe who didn't hate this movie!"

Then Poison admitted to having the DVD.

That means there's at least two of us that have the DVD...and three of us that liked it. That's 300% better than every Jim Carrey movie...right !!!

Adios :pimp

I know that this is a zombie thread by now, but I just have to admit that I have the dvd as well... just like pitch black, XXX, the man apart, the Pacifier ... and so on... I just like ogling the man hahahaha. (Honesty girls, honesty. We don't watch VD flics when we want to see a good movie. In that case we pull out De Niro or a Polanski or something really artsy like a good old Kurosawa or a good new Hayao Myazaki. Nevermind all the great ... okay I'm getting distracted here. What I'm trying to say is - we want to ogle Diesel's hot bod in action. Period. He is a romance fantasy book model on legs he he he. Without the 'long hair pulled in a ponytail' that these guys usually have.) ... I have no idea why men would want to watch a VD movie. I guess it must have to do with all the things that go boom, fast cars and good looking technology.

Pitch Black and Chronicals of Riddick really are different type of films though. Pitch black is one of those survival sci-fi movies like Mars, Resident Evil, The Cube etc. It's geared up to be something different to what Riddick, which is more a 'fulfilling prophecy' sort of story. I watched them back to front CoR first then PB. I enjoyed both but for different reasons. (Also i don't really think Vin Diesel is really good perv material. I watched The fast and the furious for the cars.)

I'm sorry if i'm scary.
