Trying to un-spoiler this post.
I was prepared for an action adventure. What I saw were glimpses of a plot that could develop into something really great... Unfortunately they never eventuated.
I REALLY hope there is a director's cut of this movie when it comes out on DVD and I hope it was a case of being cut to fit into a defined running time that caused some of the sub-plots to be cut short.
I think the movie was saved by Ron Perlman and John Hurt.
