If you haven't seen the preview for this moive yet go check it out at http://300themovie.warnerbros.com/

Phew! What a trailer - gave me goose bumps! It's a retelling (with a lot of dramatic license!) of the Spartan 'last stand' at Thermopylae against a HUGE ,Persian army. If anyone has read the Frank Miller Graphic Novel or seen the 1960's film called ",300 Spartan's", you'll know what this is gonna be like - FREAKING AWESOME!

Fiona - you know I love big battle scenes.........

I haven't read the graphic novel, but it was my favourite story in Year 7 history. I wonder how close to that Miller was and obviously then - the movie? It was the only story that could tear kids in the playground away from being Wookies and Droids - we then had to have garbage can lids and broomsticks ;)

Saw the trailer on TV a couple of nights ago and was spellbound - you could have heard a pin drop and we normally talk all over ads or mute them and talk to each other. All of us mesmerised and when it ended we vowed we would be first in the queue for it. Definitely one to watch. Can't wait!

I saw it on opening night in the hoyt's director suite. The choreography is such visual eyecandy, it's beautiful watching some of the spartan fight scenes. I suppose if you looked at it critically and rationally that it's a little unrealistic. But this is Sparta, i'm not much one for all the people who whine about how it's a movie about 'freedom' yet there are slaves. It's not about enforcing our modern views on their society. I think that the 'Empire' series by R E Feist/ Janny Wurts made me appreciate that more. I immersed myself in the culture and belief for that movie and I understood what those men did. Only criticism about the film is Xerxes reminded me a little to much of Apothesis in Stargate...yes he thought of himself as a god but ... the alieness of it. They where trying to go for myth, magic, mystery but to me they only ever reached alien. I find the spartan arogance hilarious too. That a man can have so much pride and belief in himself to have the gaul to do what Leonidas does in the film at some points. You read it in a book and you picture it...it's another thing to see it translated so beautifully into images that don't betray the tactil images in my head. Watch it, but if you have issues with nipples (numerous men, only three sets of woman (or prehaps 4?), lecherous seers (such a get me a spear and i'll impale him myself moment.) and of course violence and a little bit of sex. I had no problems with the computer generatorness of it...except blood on ground at times.

Something that I found out the other day and it annoyed me. The dude from lost is the guy that played xerxes. I was dumbfounded that such a musculan, quite attractive man turned into the sexless god. Good acting i suppose. But looking at the actual graphic novel portrayal he's much more manly.

It wasn't close to the original story (naked Spartans) but to quote Rhett Butler, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." A visual masterpiece, it had a dream-like quality that kept our shared popcorn almost untouched through most of the movie. For anyone that knows my wife's love of popcorn, you'll know how astounding THAT feat was ;) spoiler I also loved how they brought in the betrayer and Xerxes use of the Spartan curse of "May you live forever." :y

Yup - glad everyone loved this movie as much as me. The story is, of course, a much glammed up version with endless poetic liscence but hey - that's what makes it soooo good!

Just sit back with a big screen tv, really loud sound and a bowl of popcorn!

"We shall fight in the shade!" if only I could come up with corker of a line like that for my writing... hehehe

But like Braveheart, I refuse to watch the end. Had to leave, despite the boys setting the scene with no lights, popcorn, chocolates, plasma screen and ENORMOUS sound and endless begging about the heroics. I don't like to see those endings. I cry!

yeah but the manner of ones death can truly be significant. For all you know he dies a coward or a hero... To me it's not really watching the full movie and what the production team had in mind if you only watch 9/10 of the movie.
