Thar be SPOILERS!!! Ye've been warned!! Arhar!

My free time has been something of a fossil lately, rare, dusty and hard to extract. SO my first movie in a while I thought should be something special and hay, I had some Gold Class Tickets from Christmas I was finally going to be able to use! I wasn't expecting a block-buster, just something black and white, little guess work involved, that leaves you with the feeling of a good Bond flick or one of the Star wars prequels.... a simple story with lots of flash and pizazz.

I have only just come out of the cinema and I just need to talk about it.

A little background, I like to think that I can be pretty impartial at best and as constructively critical as possible at worst - to the point where I've often been the self-appointed cheer leader (sans Pompoms) of many creative groups. Bruising egos is not something I try to do so I know that taking a creative work down for the sake of it doesn't help anyone. My marvel fan-boy days died in the 80s along with most of my childhood desires, but the memories of the emotions involved are still with me.

Now
I've sat through the various rehashes of Comics-for the Movies and felt overall they've been entertaining in every example, some to a lesser degree than others, and I think all added some unique twists for a new audience and the give-it-to-me-now requirements of the medium we're talking about.

But none SUCKED...

Until now.

Spiderman 3 sucked watermelons through a straw, and that's a powerful vacuum cleaner let me tell ya!

But why?
After talk to my wife, who is not a fan of the comics but a fan of the Marvel movies on the whole, we agreed that there were lots of cool scenes. This part or that part was good. Lots of memorable, funny and moving sections...

But the whole was a hole dear readers.

I'll be looking at the editor and finding out more about what's been mentioned in comments I've seen around so far, because someone's name should be plastered on a wall for the creative murder (or should that be slow torture?) of this movie.

I hope someone got more out of it, but I think I'll enjoy the historically flawed version of one of my favourite historical (?) battles in 300 rather than what I just saw. Not something I would have thought possible a month ago. At least 300 isn't TRYING to be something it's not.... here's hoping.

I think i got more out of it then you did, because i wasn't expecting to enjoy it at all. Mainly because i had disliked Mary Jane so much.  But she did finally grow on me.

I've always been a more character developement person then anything else. I personally felt the dynamics of the movie whilst a distinct change in direction was good.

The MJ Peter parker thing had me enthralled during most of it. Mainly because I empathised so deeply with Mary Jane with Peter's blind optimism and her struggles. In respects to Gwen I think for the screen time she had it was all done very well, especially the jazz scene. The other woman but you didn't hate her for it you hated the one you should hate. PETER

I thought the ending of the green goblin arch was done fairly well except for the Butler thing... i think it could of been done in a better way. A little to much cheese at times but i liked it. A lighter counterpoint to the darkness in the film.

I thoroughly enjoyed the sandman and his character developement. The bit in the sandpit and the locket... beautifully wrought.... not to long that it was over done but with enough length to be poignant about the emotions that drive him as a villain.

The venom/Brock thing was obviously underplayed and rushed to fit the content in the movie, it really deserves a film to itself and felt that way at times... but i lived.

Emo Peter Parker had me cringing and thinking of wedding crashers which was comical.... so ok.

I couldn't see any other continuing story arcs ... but my friend johnny assures me there was one.

I'm disappointed a little with the music but i lived.

The french guy in the restaurant was hilarious, the cheesiness of the american flag i felt was a carry through from the american partriotism of the franchise.

I liked it... but then i had good company

-------

I'm sorry if i'm scary.

i think im the only person who actually liked this movie. I prefered it to the second one - but I think i may need to re-watch teh 2nd one again because i cant really remember it.

the best part of the movie was Harry Osbourne turning from bad to good. I cried soooo much at the end!! Ok i just have a thing for James Franco - sorry but i love him lol.

But i will admit that some parts of the film were a bit pointless - and i think some things were dragged out way to much. Example: the first fight with sandman and the whole 'Evil Peter' dancing down the street - weirdly funny but went on for way to long.

anyhow thats my opinion lol. Basically i think James Franco made the whole movie... and im sure a lot of you will disagree with me on that but thats my opinion.

laters ;)

I don't disagree at all regarding Franco Loza, that's what I hated... the fact that it was made up of so many really GREAT moments, so many great story ideas, so many intriguing character development arcs, all pulled off by great acting, Franco being foremost (hasn't he grown up!) but it had no direction. Like you said, some things just didn't need the airtime they got and some (especially Franco) didn't get the time they deserved. It was like someone had too many coffees while editing it, or someone told them they needed everything in the one movie. Perhaps the next one will be different. I mean it *has* to be without Toby and Kirsten! I will miss Franco more than those two anyway.
