Found this article... gave me a bit of a chuckle so I thought I would pass it on.

Titles

I'm having the devils own time really settling on titles for several stories so I can fully appreciate this. <img src=">

Very enjoyable and very true. A word on titling:
Consider all the books ahead before you go with the one which pleases you so hugely for book one that you can't resist it. Resist it!...and think ahead.

Marketing, cover, artwork, your name - it all comes into it. If you have a really long title it will crowd your cover. Short is best - and one words which can say it all are what the publisher loves. But remember, once you pick a word like Betrayal for example, the other two must follow suit and not only be single words with syllables that are sympathetic to first title but also similar amount of letters or they won't allow it because it throws artwork out.

If your title's too long, it means your name gets smaller and so on so titling is really quite critical and nerve wracking.

The flip side is you don't want to be constrained by short words which is why I have already pre-named next three books with several words to each title to give me flexibility.

Good luck Lisa. It's actually the fun part but write down absolutely everything which comes to mind - you'll be surprised how one leads to another but usually days apart!

Fiona's answer is probably the most rational (Hi Fiona! *waves*) but I like to remind myself that Arnold Schwartzaneggar was told to change his name and he said no against constant disagreeing from his agent. He said that he was going to make it to the point that people would remember "Arnold Schwartzaneggar".

My working title has 5 words.

What would The Lord of the Rings have been in one word?

Passage into Being... I honestly can't tell. <img src="> Passage sounds better though hehe... leaves more for the imagination. So... ehm... Fiona is right. :b

RingLord, then. Agree first one is best. But see how it flows.

Nothing wrong with Passage into Being providing you are happy that publishers these days will most likely want a similar size title for the next book because they like to use similar artwork and keep the themes going.

By the way, good to hear from you BB.

I chose all my books to be THE BESORGIAN CHRONICLES

the each can have another title... the first if The Veiled Ones'
or The Veiled Truth.

And all will be in the Chronicles... what do you think?

Cheers Steve
