Do you write for yourself because you just enjoy writing? Or are you writing because you hope to get this particular work published?

I just wondered because I've found my reasons for writing have changed over the years. As a kid I wrote because it was something I loved to do (and still do). For a long time I used it as a form of relaxation, but in the last five years or so I'm at the point where I want to focus on getting published and I'm trying to write as much for the reader as for myself.

Have others of you found a similar pattern growing as you become more confident with what you write?

I've always loved writing, ever since I was in primary school. Truth be told, I love writing, just plain and simple. I mean there are thoughts that I have about getting published. I think its what everyone wants. So if I ever got published, thats fantastic, if I don't, I've written the stories which have plagued my mind and hopefully I can pass them down to my family when I'm older.

As for patterns, I do agree. I think its because as we get older, our writing matures and we think that we might be good enough to get published, so we set off to try and do it.
