Jane Fancher, the Ring series. I recently bought book I and III of that series, to find out that book II was out of print, and that neither Amazon nor Barnes & Noble could find it. I finally got to my favorite used books web site and found it there, but there were very few copies and they were not all in very good condition. Also, I found her website and apparently there was supposed to be a fourth book, but the work seems to be on hold for some reason. Would it be for lack of success? Anyway, I wonder if the end of book III is satisfying enough to end this series, of if we'll really feel that something's missing...
I haven't read it yet, but I would be willing to put it up my list for this club.

Okay, BH. Feist is out. We'll go paperback, then.

However, let me remind you that the books you suggest are in no way the definite list. We'll have a vote later on!
Fiona: How about Tigana or the Fionavar Tapestry? Is Fionavar a series, or could it be read as a single book? And we could also go ahead with the Son of the Forest by Juliet Marillier.

Since a few of you have suggested two books, here's a second suggestion from myself: The Bone Doll's Twin, by Lynn Flewelling.

I've read Bone Doll's Twin - it is excellent. If no one has read this (and it has gone to small paperback), I would recommend it as a good book club read.
Leave out Marillier then. On GGK I would recommend Fionavar for everyone simply because it is the most controversial of his efforts - it gets the most polarised comments and it includes everything from leaping from the world we know to a new and fantastical one laced with magic as well as brilliant story and the stuff that gets people all worked up - he introduced Arthurian concept. After Tigana, this series got me absolutely committed to fantasy. And I would love to read them again but it is a three book read.

Woahhh! I can see you have a strong feeling about this, Soldier!
I hope you're going to enjoy reading her books, and that her name won't keep popping into your mind just to nag you as you read along... Maybe she just wanted to invent a name for herself, something that sounded like a Welsh name, but wasn't really one. For myself, I don't care what name authors use, as long as their books are entertaining.

Soldier!
Well, you can't expect too much from an author who comfortably poses outside an XXX peep show for her fans to see on the web! Than picture really made me go hum when I saw it...
www.sff.net/people/Lynn.Flewelling/I was taught at school that all ways of spelling a name are acceptable: there is no such thing as a mispelt name.

I have a book NOn-Fiction that moved me and i would dearly like an excuse to reread it.
The Fatal Shore by Robert Hughes.
It's about the settlement of Australia. Full of wonderful tales of sex, drugs, drunkness, crime, punishment and other interesting stuff.
That's my suggestion.

Here's the list of nominations. I pushed Fiona's to the top, because she's a nuisance and I wanted her off my back!

"> No, seriously. It would help her if we started with that book. Now, if you have any objections for the other books, speak up. I thought we would have more suggestions by more people, and have a vote, but hey! that's life.
Fiona: Sailing to Sarantium by Guy Gavriel Kay (read in September, discuss in October)
Bbeaulieu: Perdido Street Station by China Mieville (read in October, discuss in November)
Big Hills: The Ill-Made Mute by Cecilia Dart-Thornton (read in November, discuss in December)
Manon: The Green Rider by Kristen Britain (read in December, discuss in January)
Ambrai: The Ruins of Ambrai by Melanie Rawn (read in January, discuss in February)
SoldierBlue: The Fatal Shore by Robert Hughes (read in February, discuss in March)
I'm keeping a computerized list of all this, so feel free to ask if you loose the list or something...

The list looks fine to me. If anyone wants to bump my selection lower on the list, that's fine. All the books look interesting.
Brad.
P.S. For our first reading, what are we shooting for? End of Octobert to begin discussing early November?
