For anyone like me who is a John Connolly fan (straddles a strange sort of crime/fantasy line) you will be pleased to hear that he's obviously on tour in Australia and will be in Adelaide soon. I believe he's appearing at Marion Cultural Centre. For more details call the Arts Centre but I'll see if I can sleuth more info. F

I am already reading Connolly's latest - The Unquiet - No. 4 on Top Ten General fiction if anyone keeps an eye on those things and it is well deserved. This is the only writer since King's The Stand, who has forced me to sleep with my bedside light on! And he's doing it again to me with this one. I am terrified Merrick will come looking for me! Connolly is no more ghoulish than any other writer of serial killers or whatever but there is something deeply sinister about his writing. A lot like King in that he creates perfectly chilling atmosphere and draws his characters quickly and brilliantly so you are right there beside them from the outset. Connolly - for the uninitiated - writes in a genre that is new - something of his own in fact. It's a blend of crime, horror and fantasy. And is superb. Although he's Irish his books are set in the U.S, - down south and more recently in Maine. His main character, the brilliant Parker, is addictive. His other books include: Bad Men, The White Road, The Killing Kind, Dark Hollow, Every Dead Thing. I raved about Black Angel - the last book, which totally creeped me out. The Unquiet is doing the same to me and I am desperately sad that I can't get to his talk/appearance at Marion Cultural Centre on June 28. I leave for Dubai on June 27....grrrrr! It's FREE. So don't miss it and it begins at 7.30pm. Any books purchased on the night enjoy a 20% discount. Book NOW! 8375 6855
