Parents in SA should note that the annual YAN event is on again this June. Urge your children who love to write to not pass up this opportunity if their school is getting involved and inviting students to participate.
I will be the keynote speaker this year at the city event (but not the northern and southern events). However, that aside, this is a marvellous chance each year for budding young writers to prepare, read in public and then have their stories critiqued by well known children's writers. The experience is invaluable and from the author perspective the realisation of how much talent is brimming out there in our schools is an eye opener. This is just the sort of event that could encourage a youngster into developing their early skills and taking their writing more seriously.
It's on June 20.
