Shapeshifter is my new series for young readers, published by Scholastic from early 2007 under its new Fantastica imprint At this stage book 1 will release in February with subsequent books published every other month. The four books are written and we have moved into the editing process. I've continued in my comfort zone of a make believe medieval Europe, although book one begins in our world. I've always wanted to write a tale that makes the jump from this world into another and having enjoyed the experienced I'm tempted to try it for an adult series.

I was tempted to be the first poster on this new forum, but elected not to post as I knew nothing about this new series.  Now I do.  Congratulations on the new series; I'm sure it will be successful.

Thanks, Phil. Writing for children is seriously tricky but I'd quite like to do more of it in years to come.

Yahoo - the premis of the series is truly inspirational - a fantasy come self development book. Luv it - bravo. Yes - writign for the younger audience is more difficult than for adults I hear - so bravo again. Is it illustrated? What is our heroes name? More editing....

Hi Fiona, The new children's series sounds really interesting. Just a couple of questions .. 1) What age group did you write it for? 2) Is Feb 2007 the Australian release date? I have been taking more of an interest in kids books since I have had three of them (kids - not books) recently. The eldest is now 2 years old and loves books - illustrated ones at this stage of course - but I feel that I need to have a whole selection ready and waiting for him (and the other two ) when they are older.

Sorry took so long to see and answer your query, Murray. The age group that Shapeshifter is aimed at is 8-10 year olds. Yes, Feb 2007 for the release date and book one is now Saxten's Secret - the whole series will be out by May 2007, which is really great for young readers wanting to keep up with the tale and not have long waits.

Hi Fiona, No problem at all. I actually noticed after I submitted the above post that you mention 8 - 10 year olds on the front oage of the forum so it is my fault for skim reading ... too much on the skim, not enough on the reading. Have marked Feb in my calendar to lookout for the first book.

Hi F, My mother has had a book published for younger children with learning dificulties. After reading Myrren's gift and really enjoying it, and as I do with most of my fantasy books, I will pass it on to her for a read. I had already mentioned to her I was reading a fellow Mackintosh!! She has just finished a book for kids about Picts and is in the process of sending it round the usual suspects. Being 74 now I think she does it more for the fun. She started writing kids stories for my sister and I wayyy back. Regards Keith

How excitement. It doesn't matter what age group it's recommended for, I'm going to buy it anyway, just cause it sounds really interesting and I maybe able to brainwash my sister into reading Fiona McIntosh! (She's slightly apprehensive of 'Trinity', 'The Quickening' and 'Percheron' cause they're too big. Mind you, she is only 14.)

So your sister is 14 well I'm 15 and I love Fiona's books... but I'm gonna mark Feburary on my calander so I can buy her new books... I can't wait! Although I only have "The Quickening" trilogy I will certianly find 'Trinity' and 'Percheron' and finally get to read the other novels writen by Fiona. But as soon as this new set of books comes out I am gonna make my mum buy them for me... she says she doesn't care about spending money on books cause she knows I'll read them... and I love her for that. :P
