Hello Fiona,
I have been reading the series Shapeshifter to my 8 year old son Brandon at bedtime and we have both been enjoying the books. , His school is having a book parade on 7/09/07 and he would really like to dress up as King Saxton. , We would like to know what colour his costume is so that I can make it up for Brandon to wear. , Hope you can reply. , Look forward to hearing from you soon. Thankyou so much. , Brandon and Leonie Pinchbeck

Hello Leonie and Hello to you fabulous Brandon, King of Pellinor!
I'm so pleased you've been enjoying Saxton's adventures and here's hoping the rest of his story pleases you. I am especially fond of book 4 - King of the Beasts when Saxton has to be incredibly brave.
So King Brandon, what are you going to wear? Hmmm, I would say you should wear your favourite trousers - any colour will do but perhaps not jeans if you can help it, although that's how he would have been dressed when he was in the real world. I think you need a short sleeved tunic of sorts. Perhaps mum could make you one of those? I believe I always saw Saxton in green or red....earthy forest colours. If mum can find fabric that looks like leather or suede, even better. Beneath the tunic I would wear a long sleeved t-shirt because that will give it the right medieval look. You will need a belt over that tunic and your trousers will need to be tucked into a pair of boots or perhaps tuck them into matching socks if you're wearing sneakers. To complete it, and make yourself look terribly regal, I would wear a cape. Again any colour will do but he is a royal so the richer the colour the better. Feel free to wear a sword although Saxton never has to use one becaue he is so magical.
He didn't wear a hat but if you want to tie a small square of a scarf around your neck, like a bandana, by all means. Not essential though.
Now we hope you'll post a photo here - we would all love to see King Brandon dressed for his big day. Have fun.
Thanks Leonie! F

I at present have an extremely precocious 9 year old relative who will read anything he can get his hands on. I am thinking of getting the shapeshifter books for him. He is always annoying me for things to read so I think this should satisfy him.

Oh, I do hope it pleases. Let me know how he gets on with it if you do hunt down the Shapeshifter series to share with him.
