I'm doing this project together with HarperCollins children's division - our first outing together and work began on the novel the day before the Easter break. Four days of sloth and indulgence has not assisted my routine but today I'm into the swing of it and have set up a daily word target with a view to delivering the first draft to my new editor in late June.
Back to it I go!

Congratulations,
Fiona the Prolific. If you don't already have a title, that one fits!!

I'm a quarter of the way in. Plan to have this finished within the next six weeks. Enjoying writing it with a couple of villains who are fun to craft.

Thanks. Had to stop writing for a few days to go through the page proofs of the crime but I'm back on it now and trying to catch up some time to get back onto deadline. Writing for younger readers is fun and a whole new challenge.

Hi Fiona,
Is this new book (Whisperer) going to be as fast paced as the Shapeshifter series? Or will you be trying to build a bit more setting, character, etc into it as this will be a single volume?
Also - I know this is the wrong thread, but as you mentioned it above I thought I would be cheeky - what name will you be using to publish your crime novel?

Hi Murray
Whisperer will feel a lot more like one of my adult books. It will move quickly, yes, but you'll get a much deeper sense of setting, as well as character development. That said one volume doesn't feel big enough! I'm too used with my fantasy to having a much bigger scope and as I now only have 35,000 words in which to wrap up this tale I'm beginning to think....should this be a duology!
Look out for the debut novel Bye Bye Baby on August 1!
