This probably doesn't make much difference to any of you but for those among you who like to keep abreast of all developments within the publishing industry, it was confirmed today that the three Valisar books will be published worldwide in all English speaking markets by HarperCollins. What that essentially means is that I have migrated from Little Brown Publishing (Orbit imprint) in London to HarperCollins UK for this series. HarperCollins UK made a very strong case and publishes in this same world deal manner with authors like Robin Hobb and Sara Douglass, so I'm in golden company. The most exciting news is perhaps that Valisar will be published in hardback first, testimony to my new editor's faith and determination that we're going to be a successful partnership across Britain. It's very exciting. The three previous trilogies remain with Orbit's fantastic team in London and I'll continue to work closely with the gang there on Trinity, The Quickening and Percheron. Thanks to all the UK readers. Please keep reading....and tell your friends! Fxx

Congrat's Fiona.  I'm usually just a forum reader, not a poster myself, but had to convey my congratulations on graduating to hardback.  I remember reading about how excited you were when Perechon was being published in large paperback, so it must give you a real buzz to know Valisar will be in Hardback.

Hi Trosen

That's kind of you!  Actually I've now heard that Australia is not going to take the UK copy.  Instead it is determined to come out first and will release Valisar on September 1 in large trade format.  Hardback will now be reserved purely for Britain.  I'm still very excited.      US out in March 2009.

Cheers, F

Fiona,

I have to congratulate you on going hardback i the UK but why does Australia have to be different?? is it basically so they can have bragging rights of being first on the shelves?

Congrats again Ailsa

Congrats Fiona.  Going straight to Hardback sounds like they have great faith - which of course they should have given your amazing track record of producing excellent books.

Well done.    I will be satisifed with the Trade PB to get it a few months earlier ;-)

That, in and of itself, is fantastic!  The thing I hate about trade paper is that no matter how nice I try to keep them, the spines break and the covers bend.  That's why I've never been bothered by shelling out double the cost for the trade cloth.

I am most excited to have a new Fiona book in the most indestructable format possible!

And congrats.
