Looks like everyone is on holidays ...  well I would like to start things off by discussing Lazar's parents - especially dear mother. Wasn't she a clever and awesome diva. Shame she did not stick around to spice things up and what a dramatic albei it almost amusing end. When first they appeared it was no surprise that tehy were a pair of very hardened, supremely confident and powerful rulers who had no time for anything they deemed minor or insignificant.  Dear mother stood out as a very cunning and intelligent woman, all business like and big picture goals,  but the stone like coldness and distance were there too.  In terms of the Goddess, Lazar's mother was a powerful female but she lacked the warmth that the motherly part of the Goddess would demonstrate.  MInd you the Goddess in book 3 continued to be more bent on securing victory than worrying about her followers' wellbeing so in that sense the two females were alike.  Mind you I thought that Lazar's mother's regal aloofness was a wonderful foil to Percheron's harem and courtly ways and the difference between the two cultures was very striking.  One woman all powerful and serene, and poor Herezah suddenly less powerful or cunning.  If future series continue to use these characters it would be great to learn f the Galacian culture more.  That Lazar became who he was despite his parents is a tale of resilience as well as resistance.  I wonder what his siblings are like...

Yes, I enjoyed her very much and only sorry she didn't have long in our company. I think she was a formidable woman and I could sense she was actually the driving force behind the Galinsean Crown although no one should underestimate the King. I actually think Lazar is a lot like his mother - many of her qualities, if we'd got to know her better, you'd recognise in the Spur. I'm glad you found her interesting and have to tell you I had absolutely no idea when she arrived on that barge what was about to happen. I thought I was about to murder Herezah but it seems Salmeo had other ideas!

It was totally unexpected and so swift.  I was just enjoying the moment and interaction between the two women - then ....  It was interesting following how Herezah dealt with the situation and threat of war. As the fighting got closer and closer I was concerned about when intervention would come - and how. I started to think that Lazar would never achieve what he did or live to deal with his father.   Dad was used to getting his own way in all things so it was interesting to read how he had to accept Lazar's decisions about the heir to the G throne...

Just a few quick answers to some of the questions to help get the ball rolling. Fiona knows I love her so hopefully nothing I say comes out the wrong way.

Okay so how many of us have finished reading Goddess?

ME

Which part of the story affected you the most and why?

Um I think the brutal ending for Pez, I liked him.

Which character were you attached to the most and why?

I don't think I could get attached to any one to much. I am always rooting for the good guys so Ana, Lazar and Pez were the ones I was most attached to.

Which character's development/ outcomes/ or destiny surprised you and why?

the discussion of Salimeo's past and capture was suprising, I wondered if Fiona was looking for some sympathy for this character. I almost felt some for a secon or two but NO, he deserved more than he got.

Which character amused you, disgusted you, intruiged you, affected you - and why?

Salimeo easily disgusted me the most, he was vile and slimey.

Did the ending surprise you?

Yes and on further though it was missing something. Ana was not wrapped up neatly enough for me I suppose. The whole who she was and were she was from was a little vague, but it didn't dtreact from the story.

Should there be a book 4 or new series to cover the arrival and consequences of the Goddess?

Any time a favorite author of mine takes the time to go back to a world I love I welcome it. So Yes, if there is more story to tell by all means lets hear it. Maybe another trilogy some day or a stand alone book in the future.

Any other questions or thoughts???

I think that having followed Fiona's writing from her first release it is great to see the evolution of her writing. It is changing and evolving all the time. The ability to change the ending as she did here was great. Earlier series the endings were pretty neat and a happy ending for almost everyone. This was a good ending for the story but not a particularly happy ending for anyone. Overall a great read.

Which part of the story affected you the most and why?

Definately the death of Boaz. He was always my fav character and i refused to believe that he had given into Maliz. I re-read that scene in the desert about 5 times before i could continue the book! Why Boaz whyyyyyyy!

Which character were you attached to the most and why?

Clearly Boaz lol... ummm i also liked Salazin/Razeen (did i spell that write?!).

Which character's development/ outcomes/ or destiny surprised you and why?

ah let me think... Well i was suprised at HOW Boaz died... i never saw that coming (ok enough with teh Boaz... i had an attachment ok!). I was quite surprised actually at Pez's death aswell. I mean i new he woud die but i thought it would be more ... big? like a more dramatic death scene. Ummm i was pretty surprised with Ana's death. And Herezah's full on 360 degree character attitude change! Did not see that coming at all... but it was good - as bitchy as she was i never really 'hated' her ... so it was good to see her take some responsibilty and be more understanding etc.

Which character amused you, disgusted you, intruiged you, affected you - and why?

From the start Salmeo always disgusted me. Even after the revalation about his family i still couldn't stand him. Eek!

Did the ending surprise you?

Yes! I mean firstly the fact that the goddess was Ana's daughter - didnt see the twins twist! And i thought it would be all full on blown out war between the goddess and Maliz but she totally took him down in less than a minute! Which i liked because it showed how the game plan had changed from before - and Maliz got defeated in a sneaky way which worked coz he had been snaeking around the entire series. Karma much lol

Should there be a book 4 or new series to cover the arrival and consequences of the Goddess?

im not really fazed. I mean it would be interesting to hear about how the arrival of the goddess affects everyone etc. But personally i'd rather Fiona return to the trinity series or quickening and write mroe books on them before returning to percheron.

Any other questions or thoughts???

i just thought of a question while writing this! So Lyanna is Lazar's daughter - since she retunred form the other world (/plane wheerever) does that mean she is now going to be staying in percheron as Lazar's daughter and Luc's sister? Or will she go back to where she was taken when Ana died? Sorry if that was confusing lol

Hi there,  I have just read the Percheron series including Goddess within a week after some heavy duty study for the past three years when I did not allow myself the luxury of becoming immersed in a series.  I thoroughly enjoyed Fiona's writing, she has an economical style that conveys the message without getting 'hung up' on detail. Its interesting that three of my favourite authors (Sara Douglas, Robin Hobb and now Fiona) are Australian!  I found the series compelling. Several times in book 2 there were hints that Maliz was vulnerable in the Vizier's body and that if someone only woke up, he could be killed, I was sorry that it wasn't followed through and he was obliterated - his end was satisfying, but there is room for expansion of the Goddess and maybe Ana - presumably she is also on that 'other plane'?  I liked Herezah - she was a character that developed, however I found this development rather abrupt, it was great to see it happening when the opportunity presented itself.  I also enjoyed seeing the soft side of Arafanz - I would have like to see him come to some realisation of the crueller aspects of his character and develop compassion and concern for his followers- Ana certainly tried raise his consciousness in regard to this, but it was a bit like water off a duck's back.  Because of this his demise was totally necessary and expected, although the source of it wasn't. Most of the other characters did not develop, I was very sorry for a number of the characters (Lazar and especially Ana and Pez)  that their lives were manipulated by the Goddess. I felt that the Goddess wasn't really that interested in the wellbeing of the people she was using to bring her to the place where she able to achive power, for example It seemed to me that Ana was somewhat 'ripped off' in the end, as her role was that of incubator, which seemed to be to be totally counter what the Godess was all about!  Nevertheless, the series is fantastic. Thanks Fiona for providing an enjoyable escape for a while!

Robin Hobb is an Aussie? Are you sure? I thought she wasn't but that's awesome if she is! McIntosh and Hobb are by far my favourite Aussie authours!

Ok I'll have a crack at the questions-

Okay so how many of us have finished reading Goddess? Me

Which part of the story affected you the most and why? The death of Pez. He was such a lovable character, and died in such a harsh manner.

Which character were you attached to the most and why? None in particular, I liked them all to be honest. Maybe Pez, he was kinda lovable.

Which character's development/ outcomes/ or destiny surprised you and why? Sameo's relatively peacefull death at the hands of Lazar was a welcome suprise. He was such a hated character, but one could understand what made him the way he was in the end.

Which character amused you, disgusted you, intruiged you, affected you - and why? Pez was the most amusing an intriguing character for me, amusing for his exasperating antics when they were needed, and intriguing for who he really was underneath.

Did the ending surprise you? No, I had faith that McIntosh would wrap up all the loose ends to satisfaction! Ohh ok, I couldn't guess how she'd do it though, so I suppose there were some surprises..

Should there be a book 4 or new series to cover the arrival and consequences of the Goddess? Perhaps a tale set in the future and around the life and times of Luc would be a worthy read..

Any other questions or thoughts??? Mmm not yet!
