Hello everyone I'm writing to you from the Huon Valley in Tasmania's south and like most, preparing for our New Year's festivity. Ours will be very quiet, always my preference - not keen on parties. Just the four of us and a bottle of bubbly on the deck overlooking the water at midnight. I've promised the boys I'll cook up a storm for a meal - they've ordered a roast and all the trimmings (sigh, so many pans!) and perhaps a tower of my fast becoming legendary triple choc brownies with fresh Huon Valley raspberries and ice cream. One of the things I do like to do on Dec 31 is set and write down a few major goals to achieve in the coming 12 months. There is no better time than Dec 31 for resolutions and plans but because I'm not a good planner I just bullet point a half dozen personal milestones - everything from drinking more water to experiencing a specific new challenge. I keep it short so the list isn't daunting and although it often points to a lot of effort, I also keep it achievable. By writing them down and then sealing them up it somehow makes them more potent in my mind, as though I've made a definite commitment. A hug and a kiss to sons and husband, a pat to the dogs and my 2008 will begin. Here's to you all looking foward to a big, rewarding, busy, satisfying and happy new year filled with challenge and achievement. Thanks for being part of this community and for your friendship and support this year. I hope we can look forward to your company in 2008. Fx

NU YR 2008 and much of life's best in all you do

Quiet end of 2007 this way too - I am not a party person either.  No roast dinner or mega chocolate fix dessert though (sounds like a version of Nigella's from Feast?) - it was 43 degrees in Adelaide yesterday (still 40 around 8pm) so that kind of cooking was insane to even consider.

As far as plans or goals for 2008 - all things considered as must dos are already in train since mid December - that way I can make sure they are fulfilled and not just a list of post NYE wanna dos or gunna dos. Persisitence will make them happen and then I can set some new goals - there is always something more to do - life is like that - learnign for life. For sheer fun and interest I am doing a self hypnosis workshop next weekend - an area of personal interest for long ages (part of my in process writing)  - have studied this area before but am interested to see what is current in this mesmorising field.     Be Well and Happy  and stay cool

No, not Nigella's, although hers are delicious...I've made them. These I'm surprised to say are so much better and absolutely reliable. They're an old Gourmet recipe I think although I reckon I now make them with my eyes closed! Like the idea of the self-hypnosis workshop. Tell me more!

Gourmet series is fab and I am certain that yours are much better. Is the recipe in the cauldron yet?  The self hypnosis workshop is offered by WEA =2x3hrs for $45 - running again in April. Hypnosis is like meditation but includes using more things like imagery to guide people through their levels of consciousness and self awareness - that concept of mindfulness again and a safe way of facing personal demons.  I will tell more once I have completed the 2 workshops.

We had a quite New Years again this year as well, just a  family dinner in sleepy Armidale then watched the Sydney Fireworks on the telly at midnight there wasn't even alcohol involved. My health is main concern for 2008 which I hope will improve steadily over the year otherwise I will be in big trouble, lol.

May everyone have a Happy, Healthly and Safe 2008 and hope to be talking to you all at some point through the year.

Hi Everyone,

I agree, the time after Christmas to Dec 31st is a time of reflection and looking forward. I'm still in shock that we are in 2008 - 2007 FLEW by (for me).

I also make a few goals as for what I want to achieve, they include to post more regularly to my blog  and to make more jewellery and play with my beads (I probably sound like a kid).

I had a very quiet NYE and on New Years day made apricot chutney, first time ever, I think i've learnt a new skill!.

Anyway, happy new year to all!

I took care of my 15 month old granddaughter while my daughter and son-in-law went out and partied.
