Bought the Indiana Jones trilogy yesterday and have had a Raiders fest watching all the movies. Brilliant!....and it doesn't matter that I feel as though I know every word of them, they feel fresh and wonderful. Now I'm going to book seats for Friday - can't wait for the Skull! F

I'm also looking forward to the new Indiana Jones film.  I'll be seeing it soon along with a couple of others, Iron Man and Prince Caspian.  The reviews are uniformly ++ for Iron Man, but so so for The new Narnia entry.  I'll judge for myself!

My boys have seen Iron Man twice and reckons it's excellent. Ian and I want to see it. So, Indy.....I won't put any spoilers I promise I just wish George Lucas would actually stay out of it. He's taken it to realms of such implausibility that we've lost what has made Indiana Jones so brilliant....the fact that it always feels vaguely credible - even that wonderful old knight who guarded the grail for centuries in the third film. In this one Lucas is giving it his hateful Star Wars prequel feeling of wow, I've got special effects so let's just use them. The ending for me was very disappointing and really spoiled the fact that the first half is pretty faithful to the Raiders trilogy with some of the trademark action sequences we've come to expect. I mind that they're trying to make Jones feel indestructible and almost Bond-ish because most of his charm is his anti-hero approach and the fact that he always just gets out of hideous scrapes by being creative and flukey rather than giving the audience the sense that he will prevail easily enough. Please don't get me wrong. I was lost in it. Another great escape and very entertaining, good fun, fabulous ideas and creativity but I just wish they hadn' t gone with Lucas's ending. It felt daft and out of place for what we've come to expect from the Raiders movies that tend to feel more historical/biblical/ethereal.....fantastical! I didn't mind a bit that Indiana Jones is 20 years older. He looks his age but he's spry and terrific looking anyway so it doesn't matter. The opening is terrific, the signature creepy crawly scene is excellent, the chases and fights all huge and exciting but the story lacks something and I can't quite put my finger on it. Score: Raiders 1 - 10, Doom - 8, Grail - 10, Skull....7 but only because of Lucas I think and I wanted more of Indy fighting with the girl and hating snakes and feeling helpless. Phil?

Fiona, I'll be attending Iron Man in a couple of hours; Indy's scheduled for next weekend.  Non-spoiler critiques will follow each viewing.  Your Lucas comments don't surprise me; I truly believe he's decided he's become a Force unto himself and can ILM his way to further success; he is not fan-oriented and goes his own way in all his projects.  Make no mistake about it, I'm a huge Lucas fan; but often his vision and mine don't coincide.  But then again, He's about a billionaire and I'm not.

I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull this afternoon.  Good movie and a lot of fun; a true continuation of the Indy franchise.  Same unbelievable stunts that have you saying," yah, right"!  This is another movie where you need to check your skepticism at the door.  That's OK though, because you go to a movie like this to escape the real world for a couple of hours  Lucas and Spielberg combine their talents again in another entertaining jaunt into never neverland.
Fiona, being a Sci-Fi fan, I can dig the ending, but I'll admit it had more of Star Wars than classic Indiana Jones.  It's really no more fantastic than the power of the Ark, the power of the Sankara stones, or the power of the Grail.....just different.

Is there a new, young Indy being groomed for the future?  It just may happen; Harrison Ford's starting to show his age, and I know the principals won't let this franchise die.  Go watch the movie and decide for yourself.  By the way, did Indy seem to get younger as the movie rolled on? He seemed ancient in the first scenes and then seemd to shed a lot of years as the action accelerated.

 3 stars out of four.
