Aw Merryd, how're we to read your book if you don't write it?

I've been busily tweaking, plucking and occassionally pounding my first draft into shape. I'm not even halfway through yet, thanks to the patch of rewrite, but what I have done I'm fairly pleased with (not to blow my own trumpet, of course). Things which just kinda happened because I wanted them to now have a reason for being which is always nice. On a non-writing but related note, I signed up with the SA writer's centre. I'd been putting that off because "it's for serious writers, not potterers." (That quote, by the way, was taken directly from the inside of my brain, not anything anyone ever said to me.) Not entirely sure what to do with my membership, but I'll probably come up with something.

Hope everyone's had a wonderful week.

I know, Marelle... It's one of the reasons I come to the BB - I'm so ashamed when I have to post that I haven't written anything that I immediately go away and write something.  So, last night I wrote a couple of paragraphs before going to bed.

I'm glad to hear you're pleased with the way your draft is shaping up.  It must be very satisfying seeing it all come together.

I've also thought about joining the writers' centre - maybe I should just take the plunge.  I've tried turning up to the fantasy bookclub (I made it once), but Monday nights have always been my yoga nights and at the moment I've not been escaping work before 6pm.

Glad to hear there's been progress, Merryd. Call me an optimist, but I think you'll get there.

I'll freely admit that I decided to sign up for this for much the same reason, and it's why I keep coming back even though technically I've finished Fiona's Fabulous First Draft Challenge (don't ask why I call it that, it's just one of those me-things). As much as I love peeling away all the rubbish and seeing my shiny story appear, editing's kind of a slog for me. I'd procrastinate if not for the knowledge that if I do that I'd have to come and admit to it.

Well I'm late as usual and hate to admit haven't even picked my MS up some times it is frustrating and I keep living in hope that I will win lotto, can quit work and have nothing else to think about other than writing. I'm a member of QWC at first I wasn't sure but now being 6 months down the track it is money well spent. The monthly mag has heaps of helpful hints and lets you know what is going on in your area. Mind you I haven't had time to go to any of the workshops yet but I can dream, one day it will happen. It is also good for saying what competitions and opportunities are out there.

Now next week I am going to be on time and I will be all excited because I start my holidays in 2 days time and have nothing planned other than plodding around the house and writing . I can't wait.

Thanks, Marelle.  Sometimes, it feels like I'm getting nowhere - it goes soooooo slowly.  And then my character does something a bit daft and I have a bit of a laugh at him and think ah well I'm kind of fond of him.

I decided early on to be honest about meeting my daily word count on the BB because I knew that having to admit to any laxity would drive me nuts and give me enough motivation to keep going with my limited word count.

Hope you get heaps done in your holiday, Trissn!  Have fun.

Well done on joining SAWC. There's no instant benefit other than you are now officially recognised as one of the writing community of South Australia and that should make you feel good. But your newsletters will begin to arrive and you'll start to feel like a member, aware of events and competitions and who is achieving what and why. You can get as involved or remain as distant as you wish but that newsletter will keep you in touch. Congrats.

Hi everyone,

This week I've done a lot of writing but don't ask me the word count, i couldn't tell you.  I'm enjoying the development of the story and the world its set in, I've been drawing pictures of my characters as well. Since I'm very new at writing (I started to put pen to paper about a year ago) I don't know about the local writing groups and organisations. I'm in Sydney NSW. Cheers Ebony.

Ebony are you getting along to the Sydney Writers Festival? Might be a valuable experience for a new writer? F
