Ok, I saw Iron Man. Perhaps I'm getting sated on Comic book heroes, but, while I enjoyed the movie, I can't wax as enthusiastically as most of the pro reviewers I've read. Robert Downey, Jr was undeniably in peak form; Gwyneth Paltrow was a sleek accompaniment to Downey's character; and Jeff Bridges came across as a larger than life villain; but ultimately it was a pretty mindless action flick. The special effects were uniformly good, but that's become de rigueur today for a big budget movie. As with all of the movies in this genre, you have to check your critical faculties at the door. All the pieces were good, but I don't think they came together as seamlessly into a whole as I might have wished they would.
Overall......... recommended, say 3 stars out of 4. I'll probably add the DVD to my collection. Stay through the credits, there's a snippet at the end a la Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's end. If you really like the movie, take heart, there will be a sequel.

Stay tuned for Phil's take on the new Indiana Jones movie next week.
