I'm relieved and pleased to say that Year 12 is now well and truly over for me in my official capacity as parent of the school. Tonight's Speech Night brought the curtain down on 12 years of school and a slog of a last year. But the Year 12 cohort looked happy and relaxed, and my pair couldn't wait to tear off their uniforms for the last time. Yes, I did cry a little but only with happiness. A new era begins and I am now fully free to write with abandon. No more 3pm clock-watching, no more lunch boxes, no more uniforms to launder and press, no more school bags with rotting bananas at the bottom, no more booklists to fill out....or afford, no more parent/teacher interviews or school reports. No more ghastly sports days or swimming carnivals, no more debates or table tennis matches in the dead of winter at some school I can never find my way to on a Friday night when I want to be home and eating chocolate. And no more 0600 starts day after relentless day! Anyone else at the board finishing Year 12 - congratulations! Here's to you - our new generation of bright minds that we hold so much hope for in being able to find solutions for the world's problems that have never felt more burdensome. Good luck. Make us proud. Fx

A little tune in honour of the occasion .

"So we make stories of our own, in fevered and envious imitation of our Maker, hoping that we'll tell, by chance, what God left untold."

God another year gone! Makes me feel old (graduated last year). Congrats to everyone who did finish! Now just enjoy the christmas break and good luck with uni next year, or whatever you choose to do :)

Just remember, that even if you didn't get the UAI or Uni course you wanted, its not the end of the world. They have uni courses online now that don't even use your UAI.

Good luck to everyone in the future :)

my stepsister just finished year 12. i am eternally grateful as she'd often call me with some questions about year 12 english texts that as primary school teacher i really had no idea about but would do my best to find out.  i am so proud of everyone finishing, it's not easy these days. kids have many competing pressures and it's often easy to forget the benefits of an education (am I sounding 25 or 60? geez.) She lives in Ballarat, and hopefully she'll be relocating to Melbourne  when I do so we can be close by each other for the first time in 10 years!

Results in yesterday. What tension but plenty of cheering, laughter and my mascara ran all day I think. We're celebrating and the boys are happy. Good luck to all. Fx

i remember when my results came in, I was a bloody nervous wreck!!! then when the envelope finally got there I couldn't open it for a couple of hours. My poor dad finally had to put me out of my misery by opening it for me. Congrats to the boys and I hope 2009 is everything they hoped for!

And now the new pressure....uni offers and decisions, decisions! I'm sure my pair have deliberately chosen the most competitive courses in the country to see just how far my nerves can stretch and their scores can take them!

I'd say it'd definitely be a deliberate choice on their behalfs, Fi. I remember when I got into my course - I was certain I was going to get into Creative Writing because my score was too low to get into the Film and Television Production course that was my first preference. I opened up the paper and was confused...the number of the course next to my name wasn't the Writing course at all. I took a breath and checked the F&TV code - sure enough, that's what it was. I had to sit down, I couldn't believe it. Mum thought I was going to pass out. Four years later, I'm almost done and ready to get stuck into making some amazing Aussie films.

Hope your boys got where they wanted to be.

xx
