Fiona, I too have just finished Tyrant's Blood and like the other readers before me, thoroughly enjoyed it. I also, couldn't put it down - as I had to know what was going to happen next. Now, I suppose, the house will get cleaned, the washing done & put away unless I dip my toe into another of your trilogies! I do need something to calm my nerves as my family & I 'live' through our son's HSC!!! From your comments elsewhere, I do believe there is light at the end of this tunnel! Thanks again for a wonderful two books and I await the third installment!

Hi Noni There is light and you're walking toward it but try not to look too far ahead. I worked out, as I worked through Year 12 with our twins, to only focus on the day we were living through. Tomorrow was coming soon enough with all of its trials and tribulations that seem to escalate in this all consuming final year, so the present day was the important one - getting through it, making sure all assignments were on track, that the research was underway for the various projects, that the boys were fed, happy, getting some social time, lots of sleep and good food, but not ever taking their eyes off the ball, so to speak. I was like their manager for the whole of last year. It worked for us. You're so nearly there - swotvac is surely underway so now it's just keeping calm through the exams. Good luck. I'm glad to know that Valisar has been a helpful escape. I'm sorry King's Wrath isn't ready to grab and get you through the final hurdle but there are three other trilogies just in case! I'll be thinking of you. F

Ok I’ve taken so long to get here… good reason for that. I was just reading the book so slow because I knew Id have to wait till next year for the last instalment and I wanted to drag on the story and never stop reading… but I finished now! Fiona, awesome as always! So many different things happened and I had no idea where you were going with most of it :D

I’m going to try not to add spoilers lol. I think I know who’s on the cover :P Someone who doesn’t ‘reveal’ himself until close to the end… I think. Seriously, the whole way through I was reading and dying to work out the cover! I ‘m weird like that haha.

Anyway, I was pretty shocked with the two deaths of certain characters but as I continued reading it did make sense to me.

I was fascinated with Corbel and it was cool as having him in the prologue and epilogue… I was completely shocked with THAT! And the name of the person with him… I was dying to find out what her name was! And I thought it fit really well. That seems random, but yeah I was really wanting to know what name they gave her.

Now Loathar… WHOA! Now THAT was shocking! I literally nearly dropped the book!

As for Piven… Piven was one of my favs in the first book!!! But now… AHHHH now I’m torn! Part of me likes the whole bad thing that he’s got going on while another part of me is freaking out over how much damage he cold cause.

On a last note, out of all the characters I was actually looking most forward to reading about Kirin. He’s in a bit of a predicament but it was an interesting one.

And one more point (lol really, last one), as I was reading it started to dawn on me about Kilt… but I was still in shock at the end. Everything is making sense to me! But then again I am completely unsure of anything at the same time!

See what your books do to me, Fiona :D. Love it!

PS I really tried to be vague. Hopefully I didnt make any spoilers :|

Just found the opportunity to get onto the forum.  Must type quick - daughter asleep, but not for long.

I really enjoyed Tyrant's Blood and once I started reading, I couldn't put it down - loved the prologue and the epilogue.  I liked that aspects of the book had a contemporary setting and that bits of Adelaide popped up in it.

The characters and the alliances, 'holy' and 'unholy', they formed were interesting.  Fiona had me until the last page - well done on a spectacular twist, Fiona.

Only one thing was lacking - the epic romance that links all three books!  There was no Wyl and Valentyna; no Tor and Alyssa; no Lazar and Ana!

Spoiler coming up...

The Lily, Kilt, Kirin triangle didn't really work for me.  I'm not sure why.  I liked the way Lily and Kirin came together but, for me at least, Lily doesn't really seem to have come to the fore as a main character.  just doesn't seem to have made as immediate an impact as Fiona's female characters usually do.  maybe she needs to grow on me a bit more.

Anyhoo, didn't make any difference to my overall enjoyment of the novel.  But, i do like fiona's epic romances.

Oh, and I'm really loving Beautiful Death.  About halfway through - I love the detail that Fiona puts into her settings in these Jack Hawksworth novels.  Lovely little touches that make you feel as though you are really in london.  Good characters too.  Love the way that Jack always keeps falling for the 'wrong' women.

Mdx

Merryd, you did a fine job of alerting for the spoiler, but I thought I'd make it just that much more difficult for an unwary reader to stumble into it.

WEll hello :0) Been a while since I have been here. BUT.. I got my order from Barnes & Noble a few days ago.. and finally!!>> got my hands on Tyrant's Blood... I must say Fiona, this has been an exciting page turner. I have even gone as far as having it in my desk at work and pulling it open to catch a paragraph. I think Tyrant's Blood has had more suspense than Royale Exile. Both of course being awesome books!  Some amazing stuff happening too!!! Oh my goodness!. Well just wanted to check in.. will get back as soon as possible. Be blessed~~

WEll well, I got up early this morning and went into work, got my coffee, bagel and finished Tyrant's Blood before work started. And I am speechless... OMG! I really didn't see that coming at all! I wont spoil anything here... Other than I enjoyed this second book better than the first. I would like to express some opinions about the characters etc but I am not sure how to do the Spoiler thing :0)... Though I am on the fence regarding Lily, Kilt and Karin. Still trying to a grip on it and a bit heart broken all the same. I have always been back and forth with my feelings of Loethar and now I know why... A love - hate relationship ... Fiona, the emotional trip you put me on with these books is very exciting... you are a rascal! LOL...I am FlabberGasted! (is that how you spell that? ) haha...

...** Applaudes loudly*

You make me want to find the writer in me... IF one even exists  ;}

So...absolutely no pressure, then!

I can't promise any more dastardly surprises because the scene is now set at the close of book 2 for this next volume.  Now I have to pay my dues and juggle those 18 or so characters and their storylines....and achieve some sort of resolution for this mad and twisty journey I've had you all on.  Just 30,000 words to go or thereabouts so the finish is closing in on me, though where it will be and who prevails I have no idea.

Have really enjoyed reading your comments though....makes the hard work feel hugely worth it!

Fiona you are one of the best fantasy-writers I came across in the last few years. Here in the Netherlands, the first book of the Vallisars just came out ...finally ......YAY. I found it hard to get into the story, but after 20 pages I couldnt stop reading :) Expierienced the same with your last Trilogies...Feels so good to jump into those worlds you have created...and I think this Vallisar-books create that same feeling as the previous ones... I just finished it, but the sad truth is: Have to wait for the second book...:( Dunno when that once is going to be translated in Dutch tho...Maybe someone around here could enlighten me:) Fiona, keep up the good work! = Yvonne =

Hi Yvonne

So good to know that it's going down well in the Netherlands and thank you fo reading my books.  I'm going to have to pay you all a visit in your part of the world soon - that's a promise.  In the meantime, thanks for enjoying Valisar and although I'm too sure how far away Tyrant is in Dutch translation, it will be this year.  I know my wonderful French publisher is now working on the cover art and that's usually toward the pointy end of the  publication process and I know my lovely publisher in Amsterdam works to a schedule that isn't too far off the French one.  I'll see if I can find out.  Hang in there!

Hi there K

What a lovely message - thanks a lot.   I was bleating only the other day about having so many characters to juggle, everyone refusing to capitulate or die, and so many storylines.  Well, I have approximately 16,000 words to go to end this series and two new characters have presented themselves - how dare they! - to the already ridiculous number that is swarming toward one particular place.  I am tearing out my hair but have to admit that I'm rather intrigued to see what's going to happen.  Let me assure all of you that I have absolutely no idea.  They've all got me guessing too.

Thanks for sticking with it and there's always my new book Fields of Gold in March.  It's not fantasy but it is historical fiction and might tide you through the wait!

Well I have not read any of the posts in this thread because I am only one hundred pages into the book. I just wanted to let Fiona know that I will not be getting any sleep this weekend and if I can't finish the book by Monday she is going to cost me a fake sick day. I am so hooked.

Azel's review said so many of the same things that I felt about this book. When I first started the book I thought they had given me the wrong book. It must have taken at least one or two pages before I was hooked. I had no idea where you were going with the story but I must say I never would of guessed where you led us or where you are still going to take us. I hate to pat myself on the back but I had already figured out during Royal Exile that Piven was going to be the hero of the series...wrong!  I love how you write characters that straddle the line of good and evil. You are so good at getting us to root for the bad guy and then turning him into a good guy and vice versa. Who would of ever thought that I would of been pulling for Loethar? The only bad things are that I now have to wait for the next book to be released in the states to continue the story and I have one less sick day (wink) to use this year since I was not able to put your book down until I had finished. I am loving Raven (Vyk) and the relationship between Gavriel and Loethar. Fiona I have said it before but I can't stress enough that you have mad writing skills and I feel very blessed that you share them with all of us. Thank you for yet another great thrill ride.
