And I was entertained, but not enthralled. I didn't find it any more innovative than Nick Cage's movie, National Treasure. It'll probably have some bits that will be obscure to non-US readers taking place, as it does, in Washington D.C. I really enjoyed The Da Vinci Code and found Angels and Demons a lot of fun except for one glaring technological error that really bugged me. I closed Digital Fortress after just a few pages, just couldn't like it.
It's the same basic idea; take some stories, legends and facts, throw in a bunch of real locations and things and stir briskly. Add some conspiracies and season with a dash of evil characters, and good characters too and write. I do find the Langdon character, whom I generally like, cleaving to a rather limited view of the mystical, while working his wonders in interpreting symbols no one else can fathom. I keep wanting to grab him and say,"Open up your mind, Robert!" I place it a close 3rd after the Code and Angels. Recommended for an afternoon read on a rainy day.

Thanks Phil. I was a big fan of Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code. One thing that I really loved about both of the other books is that it was written in very short chapters so even if you only had a quick ten minutes you could dive right into those books.

It is nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Ooooh... couldn't disagree more. I finished Code, but only just. It's one of the few books that i've almost not bothered finishing. I've never not finished a book, i don't think. But, i found Code really tedious - i couldn't get into the movie either, despite really admiring Audrey Tautou. Suffice to say, I wouldn't try any of his other books. Not my cup of tea at all!!
It's been a while since I read Code, but, from memory, I didn't care enough about the characters to get into the novel. Be interested to hear from any other readers who couldn't connect with this novel and why.
