Congratulations to Damian Warman who was the driving force behind the successful bid to bring the SF community's NatCon to Adelaide in 2009. This is blindingly brilliant news and to all the team involved in that submission I'd like to thank you on behalf of all in the sf community that I mix with at the Fab Fantasy Bookclub and at my bulletin board. So, all of you South Australians are being given a gift. Authors not just from around here, or indeed from around the country but also from overseas, will be descending upon Adelaide in 2009 and I hope you are going to get enthusiastically behind this fabulous opportunity and book your attendance the moment it is possible. I will ask Damian to give me all the details so we can fill those halls to bursting. At this stage I have no date and no venue but it will all fall into place quickly no doubt. I only received this news from Sean Williams this morning so thank you Sean as well! Along with authors will be agents, publishers and booksellers. All of you aspiring sf writers can immerse yourself in the nation's top gathering of your genre's community and I trust all will take advantage of the gathering. No excuses with it being in Adelaide. Also a great chance for some of the bulletin board members from around the country to visit perhaps and get to meet other members. Perhaps we can organise a get together on one of the evenings that combines Fab Fantasy Club with the BB members. I don't mind organising that - perhaps we can hold it at Dymocks or I'll see about in a room at the con hotel. Let's see how we go. I'll post information as soon as I receive but will you all start saving now. I don't know price but you'll want to register for the whole weekend, and there's usually a masquerade on the Saturday night where Sean can usually be persuaded to DJ masterfully! HOORAY!!!!!!!!

Closer to the time I will be happy to be on the planning/organising/etc committees - groups etc :) :) Well done to those who have faith in Adelaide - hopefully this will get better promoted etc etc - 2009 is looking very good indeed !!! :)

Congratulations are indeed in order to all involved. I am glad to hear that Adelaide is finally getting it's chance to see what we have been raving about for years. I just heard the news today as I am not really involved in fandom as much as I was. Natcons are amazing events and I can't emphasise enough that you really need to get yourself down there to see for yourself and support this wonderful event. It might even be possible to head across and catch it myself. Stranger things have happened. Todd aka Thug1 Back to lurkdom.

Wow. This sounds like a great event. What a great idea to try and also organise a mini catchup for all bb members. Count me in with bells on! 2009? I should be able to get a weekend pass by then ;-)

Hi

Has anyone heard anything further about the 2009 Natcon or does anyone have contact details for Damian or the committee?

There are several people in Perth who would like to attend and the sooner we can sort out trip details, the better.

Many thanks. :)

Jay

Jay, I've heard nothing except that it's on. I did write to Damien long ago but haven't heard a thing. Mind you, my editor said we're all looking forward to NatCon in 2009 so presumably she has????? I'll ask. F

Hi Fiona

Any luck getting hold of Damien?  I emailed him at the end of May to ask for any information about the con other than the date and the fact that it is in Adelaide, but haven't heard anything back.  As Jay said, there are several Sandgropers planning on attending, but we need to know more (venue, price, where to get tickets etc).

Cheers,

Steve
