HC in New York has decided to use the Australian artwork, minus the border. This is something of a coup and shows how Australia's fantasy producers - the authors, their editors, the artists, the marketing teams and so on have really come of age. Normally they'd choose to go with their own design but everyone in the art and marketing/sales at HC really likes the fortress pic - very LOTR they think - and worth working with to capture the imagination of U.S. readers. A big hooray for artist, Les Petersen, and to HC in Australia for its design.
For anyone interested, I'm about to embark on the American edit of MG. Wish me luck!

Let me guess... "American Edit" means toning down the sexual/graphic violence content for our prudish cousins over the pond?
*grins*
Keep up the good work though!
In related news... Jennifer Fallon just got picked up by a US publisher too.
The Aussie Invasion has begun!

It should arrive tomorrow or Monday - so I'm holding my breath and wondering. Colour to color and so on plus I've already changed strappado and squassation which were genuine tortures to same pain different names of The Angel and her swoops. My agent felt the American market would appreciate the fantasy concept more. I think there's to be some judicious trimming. We need to get it down to around 150,000 words which is comfortable for the American version rather than 170,000. I'll keep you all posted. Fx

...and all the names have to be changed to Mary-Jane, Sue-Ellen, Peggy-Sue, Billy-Sue, Billy-Bob, Bob-Bob and, of course...Chuck.

Nah... that's just the Southern edition, sold only below the Mason-Dixie line.

Sound good Fiona, although the mind boggles out how you'll be able to cut 20000 words from it.

It's done and gone back to New York. Hooray! It was painless to tell the truth and the judicious trimming was light...my editor obviously decided that I didn't have to lose 20,000 words in the end although I would have been happy to please.
Right!....back to Bridge of Souls. Have a good weekend everyone

I've just seen a copy of what the American cover is going to look like. If i can work out how to do it, I'll put it up on the Board.

You could scan it, then upload it then post it as a link to here...that's probably the easiest way to do it.
I'll see if I can convince some of my American friends to read it. See what they think. I'll prod my English mates into gear too.
*sighs* An American edit. If I ever get a book published I'm not touching a single word of it once it goes to print. Heh, famous last words, right?
But did you hear that they were going to sell 'Possum Magic' to a publishing company in America, but the artist objected because they wanted to change
Vegemite because they thought that the Americans wouldn't understand it. I think it's somewhat pathetic.

Everybody's comments reminded me of when I was living overseas with my ex-husband. Every one thought that we had koalas as pets, the snow was any color but white and money grew on trees! No, I'm dead serious. And there's also the one where they think all Aborigines still walk around naked on walkabouts.

man- what a crock of sh*te
Americans know what Vegemoite is- They stole it form us.
And they KNOW what it is because neary every new US perosn I "meet" ( usually on chat online- or on a few lists I belong to) nearly ALWAYS ask me - and how do you eat that Vegemite stuff-its disgusting.
Have NO idea why the Yanks bought it from us
