Of course you have the right to tell me something is a load of rubbish (even something I say). Just as I have the right to tell you that your statement that something is a load of rubbish, is itself a load of rubbish.

As for derivative and derivative, I agree. The Sword of Shannarra for instance is hugely derivative of LotR (but still enjoyable in it's own right, although not nearly as much so as the next two), however I just do not think that WoT is derivative of LotR, except on a superficial level.

And how come every philosopher you quote is celtic?

BH,...And how come every philosopher you quote is Celtic?

That's a rhetorical question...right?

Big Hills, just answer the question and be done with it, that way you can't lose either way <img src=">

OK, the truth is that it's partly because I was born in Scotland...but mostly 'cause I've never found any wise Australians to quote. <img src=">

Long live WoT!!!!!
I am one of those (how did Big Hills put it?) poor lost souls that thinks WoT is a good series of books. The fact that the second five books are focused on interaction of characters and preperation for Taimon Gai'don is just another piece of evidence that Robert Jordan has created a fully rounded world that doesn't need a fight scene every chapter to be enjoyable.

Have said that, I do understand that WoT isn't for everybody and I agree with DN when he said 'different strokes for different folks"

I never picked up that the Sword of Shanara ripped of LOTR, I found tSoS much more readable than LOTR, I hate that story with a vengance!

WOT, let's see. I dropped off during the fourth book. It was getting too repetitive. This is practically everything I get from reading it:
PLOT:
1. On a mission.
2. Attacked by Trollocs, etc.
3. Beat Trollocs, etc. Someone they believe has died.
4. Mourn for ages, continue journey and foget about dead person.
5. Repeat step 2-4 X many times.
6. Complete mission.
7. Yay!
8. Something else goes wrong, but they discover that dead person is not dead.
9. Repeat 1-8...

Ok, I think I'll stop now...

BH, Traci Harding was good!:b

It would be a pretty boring story if everything went the way the good guys wanted it to all the time. And someone said on another forum,
"I don't know if he's only got one storyline or he just doesn't know how it ends" (paraphrased but you get the gist). Robert Jordan has stated in interviews that he has always known how the story would end and who would and wouldn't be there etc. While I think that he shouldn't have done it like that (I prefer endings that come spontaneity, not preplanned so that the story has to conform to it), I still think WoT is a classic and well told story.

Of all the Traci Harding books:
-The Ancient Future
-An Echo In Time
-Masters of Reality
-Chronicle of Ages
-Tablet of Destinies, and
-The Cosmic Logos,
I think that the Ancient Future was by far the best.
In the Cosmic Logos, there's this really great 'poem' before the title page that goes something like this:

In the Ancient Future,
There was an Echo in Time,
When the Masters of Reality
Were called forth
to record a Chronicle of Ages,
With the aid of the Tablet of Destinies,
And fulfill the words of the Cosmic Logos.

Pretty clever I think. But I'm not sure about the last line...<img src=hrug"> can't remember it exactly.
Clarification, Jess?<img src=">
