I apologise if this has been brought up already but some of the threads won't open for me... Several pages back there is a mention of 30,000 words that were culled from Blood and Memory that included two new female characters? I'm very curious to hear about them- does anyone have anymore information on this? Thanks, Jem

Hi Jem I have never published the details of that culled scene - very violent - but essentially had three secondary characters whom you meet in the book that take a huge risk to find out more about what's happening in the north and they come horribly unstuck at the hands of Celimus. When Ylena escapes with Pil from the Rittylworth monastery, that was all the re-written bit because I originally had Alyd's remains carried to his family by another young woman. My editor, although she loved it all, felt we didn't need these characters because it was pulling the story in a direction away from the main thread of the people we wanted to be with i.e. Wyl, Fynch, etc. So we cut it and I just glued back the ends using Ylena and Pil. "horribly unstuck at the hands of Celimus" - Oh god, we could only imagine.

Or you could put all your cuts into one book called "The stories that were never told" by Fiona McIntosh - lol something like that.

Ahhhh! Never delete anything Fi! It could be worth squillions if the publishers decide to republish and do a 'writer's cut' type thing with the Quickening. You should invest in something like an external hard-drive and keep all your old files on there. That way it doesn't clog up room on your computer but you still have a copy of the files that you would've otherwise thrown into the trash.

And 'unstuck at the hands of Celimus'...that could be any matter of grisly deaths. I actually don't want to think about it - Fi has a horrible macabre streak through her. I definately wouldn't want to live close by if she went slightly more nuts and psychotic. Imagine how crazy and horrible that could get! Not that she ever would...just offer her chocolate and everything will be fine! :P

My son has to do a special study of someone for the whole term. I have a horrible suspicion he's picked on me. I keep hearing him muttering things like: "another psychotic outburst about the state of the bathroom." Or, "oops, the pavlova is flopping. Run everyone!" Suddenly my husband is determined I work with blunted knives and refuses to let me sharpen or buy new ones!!!

Well my friends, there are ways of recovering data from hard drives. So if Fiona ever wishes to recover material she has written (And I am the forst one to say "DON'T DELETE ANYTHING!!!") I have the technology....!
